Kucinich led effort against Iraq war&patriot act-He should be HouseLeader
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 11:01 PM by Marleyb
Congressman Dennis Kucinich was the one who led 160+ Democrats in the House of Representatives for vote against the war in Iraq. Dennis is also the only representative that stayed up all night reading the patriot act, which caused him to lead the effort against that as well.

Pelosi needs a replacement. We need a leader. Dennis has already applied for the job. And it turns out he is now representing the majority of the American people as well. AND HE WAS RIGHT all along. Seems like a winner.

Another plus- he's a great motivational speaker.

One Question- How do we go about changing the House Democratic leadership?

1. I think Nancy Is Doing A Great Job Considering The Monumental Challenges
she has to face in the house.

I want to see her take a bit stronger of a stance but then I want the same from a lot of dems, and hope they will come through.

I see no reason to petition to have her ousted from her leadership role, but I'm sure others do.

2. Kucinich for Emperor
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 11:20 PM by firefox
Conyers for Emperor.

Feingold for Emperor.

Dam. Freepers will probably go for that.

I am a big Kucinich fan and am disappointed that we do not hear more about him. The Kucinich forum is very inactive. I was particularly wanting to hear him speak in regards to the new election laws that Ohio passed concerning voting machines.

Kucinich needs to call for impeachment.:toast: Thanks Marleyb

6. I hear ya
and I would really like to hear him talking IMPEACHMENT! HELLO!!

But it would be nice to know, that if Bush bothered to bring Iran up for a vote in congress...we would have a leader that would unite the Democrats in the House to vote against it!

3. Why does Pelosi need replacing?
I figure if she's gotten Michael Savage's goat enough for him to mention her on air a few times, then she's got to be doing pretty well.

The answer to your question is that you probably don't go about changing leadership unless the House Dems are dissatisfied with Pelosi. To gage that, you could start to call them, I suppose.

9. Why does Pelosi need replacing?
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said yesterday that Democrats should not seek a unified position on an exit strategy in Iraq, calling the war a matter of individual conscience and saying differing positions within the caucus are a source of strength for the party.

Pelosi said Democrats will produce an issue agenda for the 2006 elections but it will not include a position on Iraq.

These are not the words of an opposition leader to a blatantly illegal immoral war of choice by a now known war criminal...

15. Look to the blue dogs
Southern and midwest conservatives. They don't want to be forced into running on an anti-war platform in the middle of Nebraska or Alabama.

7. A lot of Democrats don't want to rock the boat too much;
there still might be something to gain from the status quo. :eyes: Kucinich doesn't play well with Republicans and corporate fascists, so he will never get into a leadership role in the Democratic Party...

13. He didn't play all that well with the American people either
but then again, not too many people know Nancy Pelosi's name either so I suppose that doesn't matter much.

Let him campaign for it amongst his fellow House Dems.

10. Voice of experience
My Mom's family is from Cleveland - where Kucinich was Mayor.

My wife's grad school room mate lives in Cleveland.

I worked in Akron 1 week a month when Kucinich was Mayor of Cleveland. And when I left that job and got another job - I was in Cleveland about 3 days/month in the new job.

Idea man? - Yes.

Manager, leader, administrator? Ask a Clevelander.

16. I wish I could remember the details, but
didn't he predict how the tide would turn against the war by the time of the '06 elections? This was very early on leading up to or the beginning of the war.

18. Kucinich is great But I think the Honor belongs to Rep Conyers..(links)
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 11:53 PM by radio4progressives
Yes, Kucinich has been fighting the good fight, and goddess only knows i supported his campaign in the primaries...

but as far as speaker of the house is concerned, Rep John Conyers needs to be honored not only for his senority and decades of service, but for the incredible labor and work he has been devoting to ending this war in Iraq and preparartion for impeachment hearings among a long list of so many other things directly dealing with the issues we care deeply about.

So, i'm encouraging you to rethink this deserved praise for Kucinich, but consider the elevation of John Conyers to the position that he has more than earned.

on edit: did i forget to mention all of the work on elections fraud, hearings and lawsuits and the list endless...

23. How did Pelosi pass up Conyer's senority for the position?
Conyers has a prominent position behind the judiciary scene so he could keep on fighting for accountability on the election issues, Downing Street Memo, Rove indictment(hey what happened to that),abramoff scandal, illegally spying and other obvious overt affronts to our constitution and democracy....

meanwhile, Kucinich takes the lead on the House Floor inspiring our congressional Democrats to uphold their constutional duties and stand behind
Conyers and his moves toward accountablity.

25. What do you mean by he has "applied for the job"?
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 11:36 AM by Strawman
Do you mean he wanted the job when Pelosi got it or he is actively campaigning to replace Pelosi now?

If it's the latter, that's the first I've heard of it. I like Kucinich, but I think the idea of "drafting" him now to shakeup the House leadership and depose Pelosi is an unnecessary distraction.
