Pain shared is halved, joy shared is doubled...
Sometimes those of us in DU are known for taking ourselves a bit too seriously, particularly in contrast to someplace like the Lounge.

But one thing I've noticed about DU is that, even with the disagreements that arise from time to time, like the current Muddle East conflict, most of realize the truth of the title axiom. We come here to share our joys, and share our sorrows, and gain innumerable advantages in doing both.

We're here to lighten our load, and to share our dislike and distaste for the regime trying to destroy everything America is supposed to stand for. For many of us, DU is a life-saver...or at least a savior of our sanity.

In acknowledgment, I'm doing this...

a place where we goof off and debate how much vermouth should be in the vodka martini and whether bobby flay is a wonderful chef (my current position!) or an uncreative hack, you get the idea

My favorite martini recipe was in the Reader in San Diego.

In a story about a club in the distant desert, the bartender described how he made the driest martini in the world for his devoted clientèle at the cocktail hour, close to sundown.

In front of the west window at the bar, he poured the vodka, then with the decanter on the counter in front of the west window, he passed the bottle once across and then back between that window and the decanter, for the driest martini in the world.

you can see the Lounge under this forum and its political counterpoint. :)

Enjoy your stay and welcome to DU!

8. I prefer the opposite view.
Pain and joy shared is doubled. Then again, I enjoy making people I don't like miserable. :)
