I'd really like to see some follow-up from Eminem, Pink, etc.

Eminem's "Mosh" videos were really cool. Pink's "Dear Mr. President" was awesome.

But both of these performers seem to have let all that momentum evaporate.

The same things could be said of a lot of "artists."

Pink was on Letterman Thursday night. I had hoped she would perform "Dear Mr. President." I implored DU'ers to hit her website and beg her to perform that song on the show. I got zero responses.

I was afraid she'd instead sing "Stupid Girls," an interesting but less important song.

Pink surprised me by singing something even less interesting and important. In fact it was a completely boring and meaningless song, of which I can't even remember the title.

If they don't intend to carry through, I wish they wouldn't even get our hopes up. It just leads to inevitable disappointment.

2. I doubt Letterman would have censored her choice
But you never know what CBS management asked for.

3. I think songs like that are supposed to inspire us
to carry the fight forward. The movement isn't supposed to die just because it drops off the charts.

4. Pink probably sang whatever track is currently the single.
Artists don't do Letterman, Conan or Leno out of the blue. They're part of the necessary promo of a new single or album.

Live shows are about artistic expression. Talk show appearances are about moving units.

And Shady? I'd guess he's about sick of the whole industry at this point.
