A call for exclusive Democratic social organizations.
Perhaps because I live in an area which is 60% Republican, and because it's been a hot bed of property rights issues which will never go away because of the threats of lawsuits if you get too public with your opinions, I definitely feel that it would be nice just to know there's a democratic social support group somewhere down the road. It doesn't have to be a campaign headquarters, nor does it have to be actively political at all. Just somewhere you can meet like minded individuals.

In my area, anyone who isn't Republican, seems to hide their political affiliation or their religious or sexual orientation. If we do find each other and get into a conversation, it comes across more like group therapy, than it actually sounds like actual living. It's emotionally draining. I'd love to meet people who are doing wonderfully creative things, like they did decades ago, but today, people are scruffing along, making a living and hiding any semblance of a personality that might collide with Republicans.

I wish the Democrats could come up with a franchise of family oriented clubs, for example, where people could just meet and talk about common interests and common family problems. Where artists could come and feel free to teach their crafts to young children, where people could talk about all kinds of religion without anyone getting offended, share recipes of different ethnic groups, where people could talk out loud about politics without being afraid. A place that allows stimulation of the mind and education, rather than indoctrination.

Yep, a middle class country club without the golf course. That's what I think the Dems need.

1. I think it is called the Unitarian Universalist Association
Just kidding. It is actually a very good idea. What we need is a vibrant attractive secular alternative to the hideous megachurch network of hate that the theocrats are nurturing across suburbia. Something that is fun to be a part of, does good, and promotes progressive politics.

could be you in getting the wheels turning.. start by creating an online group. Gain support, interest, and a bit of money and have fun.
