BAGHDAD - Two rockets have struck the highly fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, the seat of the Iraqi government as well as the location of the US and British embassies.
According to a US military spokesman, one rocket struck the area near the Iran-Iraq war monument where former leader Saddam Hussein used to review his troops.
The other landed near some high rise apartments in the zone.
There were no initial reports of casualties or damage. The attack came the same day that the government announced the launch of a reconciliation commission charged with healing the sectarian and ethnic divisions that have brought the nation to the brink of civil war.
On Wednesday, two mortars slammed into the Green Zone, killing one person and wounding two.
