Lt Col: The Tillmans' are only upset because they aren't Christians
This stinks. It's hateful and insulting and cruel and un-american and this guy is a COMMANDER.-

Shorter United States Army LTC Ralph Kauzlarich: Pat Tillman's parents are only unhappy about the death of their son and the subsequent Army coverup of that event because they aren't Christian.

In an interview with ESPN.com, Kauzlarich said: "When you die, I mean, there is supposedly a better life, right? Well, if you are an atheist and you don't believe in anything, if you die, what is there to go to? Nothing. You are worm dirt. So for their son to die for nothing, and now he is no more- that is pretty hard to get your head around that. So I don't know how an atheist thinks. I can only imagine that that would be pretty tough."

Asked by ESPN.com whether the Tillmans' religious beliefs are a factor in the ongoing investigation, Kauzlarich said, "I think so. There is not a whole lot of trust in the system or faith in the system . So that is my personal opinion, knowing what I know."

Yeah. Because of their lack of religious faith, the Tillman's don't trust the system. Pat, who was also an atheist, clearly didn't believe in anything. He gave up a lucrative NFL career to go fight in Afghanistan for... some reason.

Read the rest. Mike Fish and ESPN have done a good job; Fish conveys very well the life of a Ranger platoon in Afghanistan. The Army is clearly at fault here, not because Tillman died (these things, sadly, happen) but because of the subsequent efforts at covering its own ass.

More from the ESPN piece-

In his interview with ESPN.com, Kauzlarich also said he was not driven to identify Tillman's killer.
...
"His parents continue to ask for it to be looked at," Kauzlarich said. "And that is really their prerogative. And if they have the right backing, the right powerful people in our government to continue to let it happen, then that is the case.

"But there been numerous unfortunate cases of fratricide, and the parents have basically said, 'OK, it was an unfortunate accident.' And they let it go. So this is — I don't know, these people have a hard time letting it go. It may be because of their religious beliefs."

5. That's not religion!
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 01:15 PM by Rose Siding
That's a sanctimonious, ass-covering war maker.

In fact, one of the reasons he's so despicable -one of the reasons I find his remarks so personally infuriating- is because of the pall it casts over religion.

16. he is espousing his religious beliefs - non believer deserve what they get
it IS religion talking. this view is held by hundreds of millions of people because that is what their religions teach them:
non-believers deserve what they get and therefore it is OK to do anything to them.

Wow, isn't that kind of the same selling point the "terrorists" use to recruit suicide bombers and such. So now we are using it as well. Die for the grand neo-con geopolitical plan and go to a better life.

Sick and hypocritical.

their son was dead? Christian parents don't care if their children live or die? This light colonel is a freaking wacko.

15. they turned his funeral into a rah-rah rally for war, knowing how Pat died
the family is upset because they were used.

Pat got a personal letter from Rumsferatu when he enlisted. When he turned against the war in Iraq, and was planning on meeting Noam Chomsky after his tour in Afghanistan, suddenly he was a liability.

21. If the Tillman family were bush supporters...
there would be none of this crap.

The right wing's MO is to trash the military service of those who serve and those who died while serving. They will attack the family who loses a loved one.

They have no decency and this kind of behavior is completely unamerican. :grr:

22. What do you want to bet this guy is a fundie?
He's definitely a proud member of the sheeple. The Tillman family can't possibly be upset by the fact that their son was killed, it was covered up, and then his death was used as a rallying cry by the bastards in power. No, the reason they're upset is because they haven't welcomed Jesus into their hearts.

And of course he's upset that anyone is still looking into this. I mean, the Tillman's can't really be considered Americans. Athiests aren't citizens. Isn't that poppy's stance?

I am an atheist, but everyone else in my family is Christian. Whenever there's a death in the family, I notice that pretty much everyone is upset. Does this mean my family members are closet atheists? Or has my family's association with me somehow tainted their belief system? Is my atheism contagious?

This guy is an asshole.

24. Follow his logic here
If you follow through his logic, then it's OK to kill Christians.

Now, don't jump on me for saying this. I'm certainly not saying it's ok to kill Christians--but he is.

You're just doing them a favor, getting them to heaven sooner.

Any doubt about this? Look at his belief that it's unChristian for the Tillmans to try to find out how their son was killed. Follow through here. People who kill Christians don't need to be caught and punished. If their families are "good Christians," they won't care who killed their child or why; they'll just be happy he's in heaven.

Sick, sick, sick.

27. Okay, here is indeed evidence why we need the separation of
church and state. A couple loses their son, and the man who may have been responsible for the safety of their son, dismisses their grief because they lack faith? WTF?

28. Looks like a defense in the frame of being offensive.
And it is working. Everyone gets poed over the silly religion distraction.

Real deal is some Senior Officers are in hitting range for having lied, covered up, and creating false statements related to Tillman's death. Those actions are enough to get the paperweights (rank) pulled off their collars, and with the mood the country is headed, some actual punishment. (very rare for Senior Officers -- notice NONE went to jail over the prison scandels). The common phrase for the condition is "different spanks for different ranks."

Clearly some Senior Officers deserve some spanking over all this -- the up front fraud regarding Tillman. If they create a circus regarding the family it may provide cover for the serious offenses.
