What in the hell were they aiming for anyway?...As Juan remarks, Hizbullah is in the far South, not North, Lebanon

1. communications
I am not justifying anything, just responding to your question. The purpose of most military operations is to disrupt all communications

5. then why not knock out MSNBC or CNN in the US?
because, of course, they're not a relevant target...and I imagine neither was the Christian TV station in North Lebanon, though i don't know the details. If Israel claims it was an error, then I suppose this shows that they're not competent enough to be waging this kind of campaign

8. because they are targeting stations that broadcast to the locals
NOT the world

Why did they bomb the airports and the harbors, and the roads, to prevent supplies and weapons from coming in. This is just standard military procedure that has been going on for a long time

11. MSNBC and CNN (and all other US networks) all run the Israeli line
The danger of a Lebanese TV station is that it has an interest in showing what is happening in...er...Lebanon. Moreover, the script for this disastrous Israeli policy was that the Lebanese Christians will place all the blame for the current crisis on Hezbollah. Unfortunately for that tidy story (being trumpeted so loudly by the US media outlets for the first few days of the bombings) is that it hasn't borne out, especially after the asinine Israeli bombing of the Lebanese army barracks.

2. 2nd Israeli strike on TV towers
Israeli jets hit another transmission station in north Lebanon on Saturday.

The transmission station was used to relay television and mobile telephone signals, said military sources.

There was no immediate information on casualties.

The raid on the transmission station in Jebel Aitou came after earlier attacks on a station used by several Lebanese television channels, including Hezbollah's al-Manar, and a cellphone network mast in Christian areas north of Beirut.

The official in charge of the station transmitting LBC programmes was killed, the channel said.

9. reuters link (video too)
Israel bombs mobile telephone and television masts in Lebanon and pledges to pursue its war on Hizbollah.

Three Israeli air raids struck a transmission station used by several Lebanese television channels, including Hizbollah's al-Manar, and a mobile telephone mast in Christian areas north of Beirut, cutting mobile phone services in northern Lebanon.

Intense fighting between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas has prompted growing international calls for an immediate cease-fire.

The Bush administration stands by its stance that Israel had a right to act in its own defence.
