Is Russ Feingold a Zionist or just a plain Jew?

I see the term Zionist tossed around to describe some faceless menacing threat to peace in the middle east. Russ Feingold is an ardent supporter of Israel. Would this make him a Zionist? I read what many Jewish leaders and scholars say regarding the use of the term Zionist as a codeword in the new anti-semitism. I also read the comments of non-Jews defending the use of the descriptor. Which do I listen to, the offended or the offenders?

I am a Zionist because I believes in a Jewish national homeland and her right to exist. Not the right to expand. I'm sure Russ Feingold (a Zionist himself) does not believe in the expansion of Israel and believes in the creation of a Palestinian/Arab state.

Yes he is, and like him I'm a Jew and a Zionist. Like me, most Jews are Zionists. Not all Zionists agree with the Israeli government's actions or methods but we all support Israel's right to exist and her right to defend herself and her citizens.

zionists are not all jews. they also come in an entire range of political leanings.

i see in this statement that he fails my test of balance and equality though.

16. Two Things Are Upsetting Me About These Threads

1) The bastardization of the word Zionist

and

2) The dualism by people on both sides of this debates.


IMHO anybody that thinks this is some manichean struggle or cowboy movie with black hats and white hats has no understanding of international politics and the jockeying for power that is going on. The sad thing is this isn't a chess board and innocent people are being killed.
