Bush regime still at odds with UN over mission and focus of peace talks
U.N.: Conference will focus on truce

UNITED NATIONS - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's call for a high-level conference will focus on reaching agreement on the political underpinnings of a cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militia, the top U.N. envoy on Lebanon and Syria said Friday.

The conference in Rome on Wednesday will bring together key players from the Mideast and the international community that have been involved in rebuilding Lebanon after its long civil war, Terje Roed-Larsen said in an interview.

"There is now a feeling of emergency, but also a state of energizing the diplomatic process in order to make these underpinnings as robust as possible," he said.

Bush: Rice Will Focus On Confronting Hezbollah

Jul 22, 2006 -- (AP) WACO, Texas President Bush said Saturday that his administration's diplomatic efforts in the Mideast will focus on strategy for confronting Hezbollah and its supporters in Syria and Iran.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice planned to depart for the region after an Oval Office meeting on Sunday with Bush and Saudi officials.

Bush said he has directed Rice to discuss with Mideast leaders how best to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. The chief U.S. diplomat will not meet with Hezbollah leaders or their Syrian backers.

1. How does one "confront" Hezbollah . . . if . . .
"The chief U.S. diplomat will not meet with Hezbollah leaders or their Syrian backers." ????

CondiLiar is right -- there is no need for her to travel over there -- she might as well spend her time shopping for shoes or what ever the hell she does with her time.
