infringe on academic freedom. But I wonder how many who said that see it as a bad thing? Some on the theocratic/autocratic right might find restricting academic freedom a good thing.

There are SOME religiously affiliated colleges and universities which encourage academic freedom, and which are as worthy of regard as completely secular institutions; but most of those that I can think of are Catholic (Jesuit) institutions like Boston College and Georgetown, not fundamentalist Protestant schools.
