Maybe we were wrong. Perhaps this whole thing is going to turn out just fine. I think elections are being scheduled!

Baghdad's chaos subsiding

Looting eases; U.S.-Iraqi patrols start
Robert Collier, Chronicle Staff Writer

Tuesday, April 15, 2003

(04-15) 04:00 PDT Baghdad -- The first glimmers of normality returned to this anarchic city Monday as U.S. soldiers began cracking down on looters, and a small contingent of Baghdad police returned to the streets.

The wave of looting that has swept the city in the past few days seemed to diminish, even while the damage done earlier by the pillagers became more apparent. Arson fires spread rapidly through many of the looted sites, destroying everything that thieves had failed to cart away.

On Monday morning, several hundred Iraqi police officers reported to work in response to a U.S. request for them to take part in joint patrols. "I want to help restore order and stop the looting so Baghdad can become a truly free place," said Iraqi police Capt. Hamad Mahmoud, one of the new recruits.

But the move came too late to stop the wanton destruction of vital institutions needed to help Iraq recover from the war. On Monday afternoon, an Interior Ministry building where identity cards were issued was set alight, and Baghdad's Islamic Library was on fire. At dusk, thick black plumes of smoke hung over the nearby Tigris.

Only one city hospital was fully functioning, because all the others have been looted. And officials reported that the entire national store of children's vaccines against polio, German measles and other childhood diseases had been destroyed by thieves who ripped out crucial refrigeration systems.

At the country's main warehouse complex for telecommunications equipment in eastern Baghdad, several large buildings were pillaged and set aflame.

SOunds great to me (well the headline anyway).

We're being greeted as liberators. Looting? Chanting for the return of Saddm? Hey, "stuff happens" in a free country!

OH! That was April of 2003!

Well, that the fuck happened then??? :freak:

1. It's still those same, few "dead-enders".........
that are creating all of the chaos. Peace and prosperity in Iraq is just around the corner, just you wait and see!

What the fuck happened? Bush and his merry cabal of neo-con asswipes happened. The rest is extremely embarrassing and heinous history.
