Book suggestion for parents of kids 9-12.... environmentalism...
I read this book when I was a kid.... It stuck with me.
It is especially important now.... Essentially it is about the importance of potable water.
It is called "The Search for Delicious"
Give it to the kid(s) and see it they figure out what it means.... they will.

Edit to add that it is probably for a younger group but it really made my boys think when we read it.

4. I think we need a parents' reading list for ages....
"old enough to drool on pictures" to "what books to give your college graduate" to maybe even "what your parents should be reading"

7. You know, that is a good thought.
It could be incorporated into the existing book groups as threads or maybe in the parenting group. I think there is a parenting group, not sure.

I am at the age that my sons are now turning me on to things that I would be unaware of. It is great!

What goes around comes around and nothing is more important than reading with your kids and if you can make some of it about really important issues then all the better.

6. I still have it on my classroom shelf.
To be honest, most modern kids don't have the patience to read through the delicious language, but it makes a great read aloud!
