Republican strategy? Hold off reinstating draft, lose in 08 but leave |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 10:03 AM by zonkers
a situation in which reinstating the draft will be unavoidable for next Administration. Ther was a National Guard Hearing on Guard preparendess(link below) and there are more upcoming. The hearing did not conclude we need the draft at this time but the fact that the topic is being hinted at leads me to think it is coming. In how long? I don't know. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-national-guard-hearing,1,4592517.story?coll=sns-ap-nation-headlines

1. Why Is It Unavoidable? |
|
It seems to me that we can pull our troops out and send in Haliburton to rebuild Iraq. We only need a draft if we want to continue war.

3. Democrats have already put in bills to bring back the draft. The |
|
selective service was being put back into place a couple of years ago. Maybe * plan is to destroy the armed forces too along with the rest of the country. A draft would put too much money into the pockets of the draftees. And Americans get real mean with a draft and a war for no reason.

"Americans get real mean with a draft and a war for no reason?" Clearly, a "war for no reason" hasn't enraged the vast majority of the sheeple. Only when it touches them directly, and they have to give up something, or move their fat, lazy, complacently ignorant asses from in front of their blissfully narcotizing television totem do most Americans get upset. Take away their TV and their "tax cuts"; that'll get 'em "mean."

10. The two have to happen at the same time. And yes, no TV would |

get people out on the streets at least.

5. I had thought that as well |
|
Bush is going to so destroy the military that they are going to propose go to "private contractors" for military services for this "new" kind of war... these contractors will not be subject to UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice?) or congressional oversight or anything like that. No need to worry about posse comitus (sp) or anything like that.

7. Rangel introduces that bill to point out how the privileged do not serve. |
|
It is an economic draft at the present time that is his point. Thus the disparate ratio of hispanic and black troops. A draft would allow them to reduce the pay of the inductees! It would solve the problem of the high pay and big bonuses that are required to induce people to enlist at the present time.

8. I have a 17 year old nephew who is joining the Army next month. |
|
He had big trouble in high school with not be motivated to actually go to classes although he is certainly intelligent enough to have graduated high school. By last year he was so hopelessly behind that he would never graduate, so he went to one of those National Guard Challenge Academies. Needless to say that the recruiters were all over these kids and after he graduated from the program he was determined to enlist. This was a kid who just 2 years ago was so frightened by a bad storm that he had to go and sleep in his mother's motel room while on vacation and he also was so scared at a zombie movie that his friend's mother had to drive him home. I tried to warn him about what could happen and where he might end up, but you know how kids are. The point is that if young people like him had any other opportunities or alternatives that they would see as viable, they would never join the service with the things that are going on in the world now. Those of privilege are not on the front lines.

pushed forth bills for the draft to call the gop's bluff and to hopefully draw attention to the utter mismanagement of the military by bush. To no avail, the party in power doesn't want anything to do with the "D" word.

6. IMO a Draft would benefit the Pro-Peace crowd a lot |
|
The best way to stop a non essential war is for little Johnnie to get drafted and be sent off to fight for no real reason. America pays attention when it involves them personally. Right now they don't care because the soldiers "volunteered" for it. Once the fighting is no longer done by "volunteers" it will end. There must be more justification than just War Profiteering....or even Republican mothers will rebel.
