It's been a very tough month at work, so I felt the need to remind people |
|
that having a baby can be the most wonderful experience in the world and most of the time, the pregnancy and birth are totally uneventful. However, if you are a pregnant woman or know a pregnant woman, please please please...pay attention to the signals that your body gives you. If your feet, hands or face swell, tell your doctor. If you think you have a urinary tract infection, don't wait until your next appointment, get it checked out now. If you experience dizziness, get it checked. If you are depressed, please tell your physician. After you take the baby home, if you experience a SUDDEN shortness of breath or cramping in the calves of your legs, get help immediately. Most things that happen during this time can be prevented or treated if caught early enough. Some of you may not believe it, but most of us lowly, despicable healthcare workers grieve right alongside of you--even if you don't see us.

1. Pregnancy and childbirth are RISKY |
|
which is why they must be kept VOLUNTARY.
Thanks for the warning on danger signs. I'd add vision changes and sudden muscle weakness to the above list. They're more unusual, but they can happen too.

Nobody should be forced to have a baby that they aren't, literally, prepared to die for. Very good point.
