Protesters marched to the gates of the exclusive men-only Bohemian Grove retreat Saturday to question the right of the rich and powerful to meet in private to discuss public policy.

On a hot and dusty road lined by towering redwoods, about 150 people stared down the police officers who blocked the entrance to the 2,700 acres of private property in Monte Rio. They chanted, "Bohemian Grove, go away! Racist, sexist, anti-gay!"

I took a few photos of the initial gathering before the march, but I confess....I bailed out due to the heat, and went swimming in the Russian River instead.

2. Helo-o the main news was the heat - 105 was the official reading.

Weather, once again, trumps everything else. The real scoop would be to catch a couple of the usual big-wigs with a night-shot camera taking their newly acquired male escorts for a midnight dip in the river. It's a shame there's a waning crescent moon.

5. Too hot to handle!

A lot of my work keeps me in the sweltering sun all week, and I couldn't take anymore.

I've been to several of these Boho protests. The first few were kind of fun. Sometimes in the past, the cops at the roadblock were treated to a ritual led by the infamous Starhawk and friends, intending to exorcise the evil energy from the area. Lately, its been pretty much marching to the roadblock and confronting a bunch of Sonoma County Sheriffs and CHPs who are, after all, just doing their jobs. I guess I've grown weary of it.

That phalynx of cops in the photo had the road blockaded.

Our (ahem!) "leaders" are pretty well insulated from the general public.
