Like Lieberman, she is facing a primary opponent. In her case, she narrowly beat him and now has to face a run off.

I don't necessarily have an opinion on whether she should run as an independent, but how Democratic leaders and the press would treat her announcement of doing so compared to Lieberman would be illuminating, especially since she has been scorned for trying to do her job of oversight and opposition, and Lieberman is lauded for betraying his party and abdicating his oversight responsibility to the Tard King.

3. she would have no support from the dems
they would nearly unanimously support the democrat, and it would be a much easier decision for most of them than it was for Lieberman, imo.

6. She Can't...
The filing deadline for independents in Georgia passed on 11 July.

In addition, Georgia has VERY restrictive ballot access laws. No independent has been on a Georgia congressional ballot since the 1950's or 1960's anyways.

Of course, she CAN run as a write-in. No signature requirements but write-ins must be spelled perfectly. If someone misspells her name like 'Cinthia McKinney', Cynthia MacKinney' or even 'Cynthia McKiney', it would be an invalid vote.

In Georgia, the two parties are the only game in town...

9. my point was not the practical possibility, but the business Dems reaction
since they seem willing to back Joe even in the face of rejection by the voters.

11. when it comes down to a conflict of your interest and big business,
which side are the Lieberman-ites going to fall on and which side would McKinney fall on?

If you had a draft age kid, who would you want deciding when we go to war?

If your job was in danger of being outsourced, who do you think is going to fight to keep it here?

Or do those things matter less than what Fox News tells you to think about someone's hairdo and fight with a security gaurd?

12. she already had the opportunity in 2002

when she lost the primary to Majette. She didn't make an indy run then, and I doubt she will if she loses this runoff.

14. true.
I suspect that the party poobahs who are tempted to support Joementum in his indy bid would be more than happy to throw Cynthia under the bus were she to try the same thing.

15. Most democratic leaders have said that they will support the winner of
the primary in CT and I believe that would be the case in GA as well whoever wins the run-off.

16. which party leaders said they'd support Lieberman if he runs as an indie?
My sense is that while there are senior Democrats supporting Lieberman in the primary, I have heard a lot say they'd support him if he loses the primary and Lamont is the Democratic candidate.
