There are usually 3 kinds of people within a political party
The liberal, the moderate and the conservative. How does DU members differentiate between them?

1. And There Is Generally More Than One Issue To Apply The Standard
So any argument goes right down the drain ....

You are what the preponderence of your beliefs leads you to believe yourself to be.

2. I'm not asking for an argument here!
I'm asking for a category to place myself within this group and think I made a mistake by joining the DU group, I consider myself to be a moderate

4. an overall moderate, or a moderate
compared only to the left?

I consider myself independent, even though I support the Democratic Party. Do they represent me perfectly? Of course not, but they are more in line with what I believe by far. On some issues I am very moderate, on some way to the left, and I imagine on some I could be stereotypically considered to the right (such as guns).

Why is it a mistake? Even if you do not believe or agree with fellow posters, it is a great source of information and debate. If you stick around, you'll find a very wide variety of opinions and views here.

8. YES, I do get alot of news here
but sometimes have to wade through senseless arguments and just plain pigheadedness, but I try to ignore them as I try to see both sides of any issue.

11. btw, even though you will hear some far-out stuff on each and every
subject, we are for the most parts moderate lefties, but the thing is that if 100 people are moderate on 99 things each and far out on 1, and there are 100 topics, then you will hear people saying weird things on many a topic, but that reflects little on them. Experience with forums will allow you to filter better.

Finaly, DU is a wide umbrella in that it accepts anyone who is broadly similar to the ideals of the democratic party. You are welcome here, though if you feel alienated, none of us could blame you for leaving. :)

A category to place yourself? 'within' means you are a dem, (approximately) and therefore the people you meet are like you, let us not place ourselves in such small categories as to exclude those we should be talking to, after all.

And a belated welcome to DU!

10. it's a name derived from the name of a website
and is not used in a good sense. the general definition could be as follows:

1. One who is devoid of reason.

2. Someone who, without being able to form thoughts, basic premises, ideas, analogies, or conceptual theories on their own, professes to believe what he/she is told to believe, verbatim.

3. One who "freeps"; someone who gleefully rejoices at the destruction of liberty, voting rights, and free thought.

4. One who is not free despite the strong belief in the only important amendment, the second. See: Orwell, 1984

5. One who mistakenly believes that everyone who does not fall into line with how they believe (see #2)) should be immediately tortured and put to death in the name of freedom.

6. Someone with the inability to find the CAPSLOCK key, a dictionary, a clue, the definition of "irony," or their own heads firmly entrenched within their own rectal cavities.

7. Someone who can manage to blame a Clinton or a Kennedy (and to a lesser extent a Carter or anyone to the left of "Saint Reagan") for every single catastrophe and problem in humanity. Who thinks that a blowjob is a far more serious crime than the destruction of the earth and the domination of mankind.

8. Someone who believes they are in the elite 1% of people despite living in complete poverty. see: Death Tax, Tax Cuts

9. Someone who believes in the sanctity of life but only between the ages of -0.75 to 0.0 years and right before a potentially painful death. Also believes that blastocysts are human life when used to fight the worst diseases known to man, but not human life when killed by the thousands for the purpose of making more people.

10. Someone who - despite any overwhelming massive mountains of data, studies, and other factual evidence - thinks that evolution and global warming are complete and utter BS and have been proved wrong time and time again without a doubt so help them god.

11. Someone who believes that rights only exist for their drinking buddies, and that everyone else can die and be sorted out by God.

12. See: Ya Want me ta kick yer ass or somethin?!?, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN AT, SISSYBOY?!? THIS IS SERIESLY HUGH!!1!
