Maybe this is one way we can build up opposition
I seems that americans have no experience or much strength to do much ,we feel overwhelemed .

So since everything is basically controlled by our bush admin perhaps we as citizens can fight back at least when it comes to corporations . It does not seem to work to combat wally world but lets begin with a target that everyone can easily do without . Lets begin with the fast food industry , lets target grand old McD's and simply stop . I don't personally go there but there has to be enough people who do along with their friends , this if somewhat successful may provide a lift to a feeling of some personal power . it would be easy to do and it would help on several fronts .

This is not a grand idea , just a thought and may be a beginning were we have the control and power to fight back and then go from there a bit at a time ,just weed out all you can do without , the jobs are going to hell anyway so why not .

1. I've been thinking the same thing for some time now. WE HAVE POWER
that we are not exercising.

I agree, let's start somewhere (WalMart would be my first choice, but with the economy in the toilet, I can sorta understand how low-income uninformed think they 'need' to shop there)

McD's works for me.
Just STOP.
And I think we should all pledge one day a week (I vote Sunday) to NOT SPEND ANY MONEY ANYWHERE if you can help it. Plan ahead, gas/groceries on Saturday, etc...just a WHOLE DAY where nobody is out fueling the unholy free market system.

Be great, wouldn't it????

2. yes it would be great and it is possible too
It is one thing we do have the control over and one thing we can do to effect a change . If we chose sunday as you said to not shop at all and spend the time at home jsut think the effect this one simple thing would have in the quality of the air , and in time when people begin to realize how quiet and real and peaceful it would be on that one days they may bring this thinking into more days per week . We don't really need 24/7 madness , I recall the days when we did not have 24/7 madness and let me tell you it was great .

3. I do too...When I was a kid, there were maybe a couple of gas
stations and restaurants that were open on Sundays, but no grocery stores or retail stores or anything like that; of course, 'convenience stores' hadn't even been invented yet unless you were out on the interstate, in which case they were called 'truck stops.'

I put $10 in my gas tank the day before payday last week, since it was all I could afford until my check hit the bank; I told the gal at the counter that I remember when it wasn't even possible to PUT $10 worth of gas in my tank, it wouldn't fit, and she had NO CLUE as to what I meant...
Holy shit.

How can we go about this? I know there are organizations out there trying to promote this very thing...where/how on DU would be best to push this initiative??

4. I stopped along time ago with McD....more for health reasons..it is
just not good for you...so count me in...as far as really getting anything done about the 1 day boycott, I think we need a leader that will stand up and call this..but I don't think any of our pols will go against the corporations.

5. I haven't spent a dime at McD's in years; bet I've spent less than $10 at
any fast food places between them in the last 5-6 years or so...just not part of my routine.
Haven't set foot in a Wal Mart since 1999 and don't ever plan to again.

6. I wish there was a simple way to get this out there
i know you can't broadcast on the radio to stop buying anywhere , so it seems the only way to pull this off is to start on these types of forums to reach as many people as possible or possibly on the internet radio broadcasts without pop ups adds with the big W .
