9. I believe that stopping the war will save the non-Lebanese civilians
and soldiers also. Right now, a cease fire is imperative and Bush/Rice/Olmert are dragging their heels. In the mean time there are over half a million refugees and an impending humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Even though some food is on the way, the roads are so badly damaged that distribution may be impossible. We must insist on the prevention of starvation.
If you or anyone else can find a petition that is "more balanced" I will sign it too. I just want this impending humanitarian crisis to be averted. It could be like Katrina.

13. You are exactly right.
Unfortunately, many people think that any criticism of Israel is tantamount to advocating its destruction. And many of these people, sadly, don't think there is anything wrong with Israel killing innocent children; it's just part of its 'defense'.

17. One does nor respond to the kidnapping of two soldiers by flattening a
neighboring country. But whatever one's beliefs, it is crucial to stop the humanitarian crisis and stop the killing and destruction on both sides. The killings must stop.

20. Right.
I have seen analogies here that are so appropriate. And yes, before there are howls of criticism from Israel apologists, this isn't the same. It's an ANALOGY.

Say I'm in a feud with a neighbor. That neighbor takes my cat. I respond by taking his dog. He responds by burning down a tree in my yard. Then I respond by killing his family, burning down his house, and hunting down his grandparents and killing them too.

That is what is called a disproportionate response. And it IS what Israel is guilty of.

23. Also, the attack on Lebanon was clearly preplanned and designed
to do maximum infrastructure damage to Lebanon, not to proportionately react to Hizbollah. This was so clearly not a response to the two soldiers, but a plan in search of an excuse.

25. but rockets and missiles and suicide bombers killing Israeli civilians is
not worthy of a bit of wording in the resolution?

We agree that both sides had much larger plans that just the kidnap/killing and the response to same, but I do see the resolution as unbalanced and therefore biased.

27. I just found a more balanced resolution from Dennis Kucinich:
http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/justforeignpolicy

I think that the slaughter on both sides has to stop and that continued aggression will only create more rage and destruction. I think that Dennis's petition handles that better.
