LONDON - Security agents in Jordan are torturing terrorism suspects on behalf of the United States in hopes of forcing confessions, the human rights watchdog Amnesty International contended in a new report Monday.

The report said its investigators had identified about 10 suspected cases of men subjected to rendition from U.S. custody to interrogation centers in Jordan, a close U.S. ally in the Middle East.

"Jordan appears to be a central hub in a global complex of secret detention centers operated by the U.S. in coordination with foreign intelligence agencies," said Malcolm Smart, director of Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa unit and an author of the report.

The United States has consistently said it does not permit suspects to be shipped to countries that practice torture.

3. This is probably the world's worst kept secret

There have been "rumors" for years that Jordan has been all too willing to be the U.S.' subcontractor for torture. Those countries in the ME still ruled by royal families, like Jordan and Saudi Arabia, have thrown their lot with the U.S. because it's the only way they can stay in power. Funny how in these cases our government never mentions the word "democracy", even when allies like Saudi Arabia have one of the oppressive governments on the planet -- and of course we'll turn a blind eye to who was really flying those planes on 9-11 and where a lot of that terrorist money was provided and laundered.

It's a shell game and those who don't play along with the U.S. will pay. We are world's biggest terrorist nation. There are many types of terrorism, folks, and lobbing bombs and missles at your enemy is just one of them. The kind of economic terrorism waged by the U.S. is ultimately more devastating than you could imagine.
