Lebanon humanitarian corridor open
Lebanon humanitarian corridor open

ISRAEL has opened a safe maritime and air corridor to allow humanitarian aid shipments to reach Lebanon, the head of the Israeli army coordination office said.

"We have authorised a 50-mile-long and 5-mile-wide (80 km by 8 km) safe passage to the Beirut port for ships and aircraft," Major Asahel Avraham said, apparently referring to helicopters.
"We have announced that any nations that wished to support the humanitarian aid efforts for Lebanon could do so in coordination with us."

1. In other words, the entire country is a no-fly Zone.

except for that 5-mile wide strip.

on edit: So what happens to aid materiel once it gets to Beirut? Or do the Israelis expect that they will be able to force all of the refugees into Beirut?

3. Who knows?
I'd assume that they'll allow truck convoys, but it's my understanding that major roads have been bombed.

4. This is complete and utter bullshit.
Who is writing the Israelis' playbook? Wolfowitz and Feith?

There is no truck traffic and the Israelis will attack any convoy that does attempt a delivery.

Maybe they will allow citizens to walk to Beirut and pick up aid materiel that there family requires for their fucking survival. And the walk back home.

This is absolutely outrageous and they float it out there like it was some grand humanitarian gesture.

11. Trucks can't be used; Israel said they would bomb trucks in south Lebanon
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 10:22 PM by Selatius
Hezbollah uses trucks to transport troops and weapons and missiles around, and they look like any other trucks civilians use. You can't tell if they are or are not Hezbollah if you're flying at 10,000 feet trying to drop a laser-guided bomb on it. The only trucks I assume wouldn't be bombed are trucks being used by the Red Cross because you'd see the red-on-white cross on the hood of the vehicle, but then again, the roads and bridges have been destroyed.

15. Israel has stated for years that the Fatah and others have misused
ambulances, UN vehicles, and other protected transportation to move munitions, guns, and soldiers. There is no way they will allow large convoys unless they inspect them. Note that they require coordination...

6. Any nation wishing to
provide humanitarian aid must coordinate with Israel first? Does this mean that Israel is physically occupying the ports?

12. They've had a naval blockade against Lebanon for almost 2 weeks now
Nothing gets in or out of Lebanon's ports without Israel's permission.

14. Kill'em all, let God sort it out!
There is no longer any reason for peaceful conflict resolution. All justifications for war are now acceptable no matter the consequences, nor the human costs.

And here is the :sarcasm: thingy.
