He said Rumsfeld blew the window of opportunity we had immediately after the invasion to squelch the insurgency.

2. A reporter who is there said on NPR that the Sunnis are
begging us to stay now, even though the were the insurgency in the beginning. If we don't stay and protect them, they are afraid they'll be shut out of govt and possibly massacred.

The author said we may drawn down troops to low 100,000 level (almost meaningless) but still have 50,000 troops there for the next 10-15 years.

The book sounds interesting. "Fiasco". Talked about the false info for the lead-up to war, how Shinseki was treated, how Franks manipulated, etc.
