1 killed in sniper attack on Ind. highway
I may have to rethink if I'm ok with even hunters having guns that they can keep at home maybe they could keep they locked up away from their house at some central repository and check them out to go hunting, because I will tell you I'm sick to hell with these wacko gun nuts that go on these rampages. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060723/ap_on_re_us/indiana_shootings;_ylt=AhA7d1YXG6RtbyFlz02iFb1I2ocA;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--

1. Could this be blowback from the situation in the Middle East? Or...
is it just some random psycho who doesn't have a political axe to grind?

12. Could be anything.

Bored psychopath with a hunting rifle. Remember Charles Whitman?

Copycat of the Phoenix, AZ shootings that were in the news a while back.

Someone with a grudge due to recent Middle East events.

Someone bounced out of mental health care due to medicaid cuts.

Someone who wanted to murder someone in particular but make it look random (unlikely given the circumstances, but it's happened).

Hard to say. Hope they catch this clown quickly.

Let's blame the weapon used rather than the criminal. Superb logic.

3. I'm not blaming the "weapon"
But I am sick of crap like this happening, so I don't think it would hurt hunters to keep their guns at a central point where they can guarded and not used in a fit of rage or anything resembling that. I really do support hunters rights to own guns but not handguns or assault weapons or anything along those lines.

8. If we want to protect lives, we ought to amend the 2nd Amendment
It should be reinterpreted to say that people have a right to bear arms as long as they are doing so to fulfill their duty to their respective regulated community militias. I'm not talking about National Guard, which has pretty much just become an extension of the federal Army. I'm talking about the old way it was done 200 years ago where communities decided when, how, and where their citizen militias were utilized. The closest working example today is Switzerland's militia system.

9. The cops can't even be trusted to safeguard their own firearms.
What makes you think I'd trust them to keep watch over mine... "sniper" hunting rifles, "assault weapons", handguns and all?

11. That is not true
Here is a great example of a responsible DEA agent and his gun handling abilities.

13. GWBs vision of America is furthered on DU.
I'll bet a loyal, God fearing, patriotic American would eagerly support and comply with any government mandated tracking and/or surveillance scheme.

I heard the story on the news as I was driving to work on the same interstate, lol. Not the best time to hear it.

19. What are you going to do,
send the military door-to-door to round up 300 million firearms from ~80 million people?

And what will you do when 75% of the military refuse to obey the order to do so (as the Twentynine Palms survey of U.S. Marines indicated would be the case)?

Attempting what you advocate would start a civil war. Not a figurative one, but a literal one. The shooting kind. With different factions of the military fighting each other, and an insurgency, and everything. A nightmare scenario, and one that is Not Going to Happen.

Merely jacking up the prices on over-10-round handgun magazines, and requiring newly manufactured civilian rifles to have fake adjustable stocks instead of real ones, helped cost Dems the House, the Senate, and two shots at the Presidency (Gore would have won in '00 had he not lost TN and WV, primarily on the gun issue). Care to speculate how a send-the-military-door-to-door scenario would play out?

There's also that little problem of the Fourth Amendment. Doing what you advocate would require a W-like reading of the 4thA...

22. If I knew how to that I would be running for some national office
As it is all I can think to do would be to bring an idea up to my elected officials and being in California the idea may get a good nod from some of them. Well except the gropenfurer.

18. Update: he wasn't done
the sniper who killed one motorist, wounded another and may have shot up two vehicles at a second location two hours away.
Granted I don't live in the area there, but I would be chewing on any local politicians ear to get some action on the easy access of these during the off hunting season.

20. Where was that sniper located that was on America's Most Wanted
this weekend? The one with the baseball cap who drives a silver car and just likes to "target practice" on about anything from animals to humans.
