Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 11:38 PM by Bluebear
SHANNON, Ireland (TODAY) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday the United States' poor relationship with Syria is overstated and indicated an openness to working with Damascus to resolve the crisis in the Middle East.

======

SHANNON, Ireland (May 16) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sharply criticized Syria on Monday for what she called unwillingness to close its borders to terrorists she said are to blame for some of the violence in Iraq.

"Their unwillingness to deal with the crossings of their border into Iraq is frustrating the will of the Iraqi people," and leading to the deaths of innocent Iraqis, Rice said en route home from a surprise trip to see Iraq's new leaders.

She said the United States will try to enlist Syria's Arab neighbors to pressure Syria to clamp down.

=====

BBC News March, 2005 - The US secretary of State has said Syria's involvement in the affairs of its neighbours in the Middle East is blocking change across the region.

Condoleezza Rice urged the country to take responsibility for its actions, warning it was endangering peace.

=====
LONDON 3/05 — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused Syria on Tuesday of abetting a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv that killed five Israelis last Friday. Her comments came as international pressure escalated on Syria for its alleged role in terrorist attacks in Israel, Lebanon and Iraq.

2. Nice trick linking this current crisis to Iraq
That way if Syria doesn't comply, the US has an excuse to get involved too.

Condi is slick.

Either way it's a win win for her. If Syria doesn't comply, the Neocons get the excuse they've been preying for. If Syria does comply, the Condi is a heroine and on her way to heading the Repug ticket in 2008.

4. Syria's winning the public relations war with their humanitarian help of
the Lebanese refugees. World opinion is beginning to influence Bush policy, which means Bolton and Condi will be double talking/lying at a dizzying pace.:puke:

5. What's a 'false hobby horse'?
"The problem isn't that people haven't talked to the Syrians. It's that the Syrians haven't acted," she said. "I think this is simply just a kind of false hobby horse that somehow it's because we don't talk to the Syrians.

If you read the article from beginning to end you'll notice she makes less and less sense as she goes on.

6. Thx cya...I added that link in the OP
"It's not as if we don't have diplomatic relations," she said. "We do! "If there is a cessation of hostilities, the government of Lebanon is going to have to be the party." "I think this is simply just a kind of false hobby horse!"

:crazy:
