Ray just layed it out - battle of armegeddon coming
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 04:42 AM by bananas
He read from this article, and pointed out that the presidents of both Iran and the US are religious fanatics who believe they are here to start a huge war, after which the Mahdi or Jesus will come back and bring world peace.

And Ray says, "Make no doubt about it - we're going to war."

'Divine mission' driving Iran's new leader
By Anton La Guardia
(Filed: 14/01/2006)

As Iran rushes towards confrontation with the world over its nuclear programme, the question uppermost in the mind of western leaders is "What is moving its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to such recklessness?"

2. There's no doubt in my mind that's what Shrub want's to do, BUT
I'm not convinced that he realistically CAN! The military is worn down. After 3+ tours in Iraq or Afghanastan (or both), missing recruitment goals for well over a year, and the public already turning against war, I don't know if he can start another ground war!

5. paranoid scenario
Bush says it's urgent that we invade Iran now. "Our work in Iraq is done, stable government, blah blah blah."

Timed to coincide with an election.

8. What I see happening
Even on DU, many people want to bomb Iran before they get nukes.
So there's no question he has enough support to do that.
Iran retaliates by bombing our troops in Iraq.
Then we are in a ground war.
What choices does he have then:
- make peace with Iran
- pull troops out of Iraq (cut and run)
- escalate the war

7. My question is...
How the hell are they, or anyone going to know when/if Jesus or the Mahdi actually show up so that the whole thing can be called off? It's not like Jesus carries heavenly issued ID.

I'm just wondering how much divine bloodshed, cosmic chaos and war is enough for fanatics to think 'yup! Jesus has gotta be on his way now!'

10. Oh, if you listened to them, you'd already know how!
The next time Jesus comes to Earth, it will be in a blaze of glory, and the whole world will be divided, good on one side and bad on the other. The good will rise up to be with him in heaven and the bad will be condemned to eternal suffering in hell with Satan. All will know the INSTANT this all happens.

The amusing part I've always thought about was all the SHOCKED people who find themselves on the wrong side, and are all looking at each other asking WHY?

So many scrabble players spelling it "layed"!

Strangely, this website lists it as a valid word:

14. Not according to all my grammar books.
Infinitive: to lay
Perfect infinitive: to have laid
Present participle: laying
Past participle: laid

I am a copy editor and the word "layed" would never past muster in any of the stories I edit. And it is not even in the dictionary.
