1. It can't be justified
It is just as terrorist as any crime that Israel claims it is defending itself against

7. That photo shows the results of a Hezbollah attack.

"Hezbollah Presses Attack on Israeli Port".

Just saying, not taking sides here.

On Edit: Maybe they've changed the picture?

14. Thank you! For showing the other side, the side of the underdogs.
What did this child do to Israel? Is this child worth less than the aggressors?

5. And some will deny what you are seeing . . .
That is the saddest photo I've ever seen . . . mom knows and is trying to comfort her child. So much love -- these are humans who love and feel great sorrow -- if the leaders of the world can't have compassion -- then the leaders of the world are not of the human species.

Sorry but I see these are two victims of Israel violence on civilians.

6. The photo on the front page now is of a bombed factory in Haifa
I'm assuming you must be speaking of something else?

Although I would like to point out that sadly, two Israeli civilians were killed on Sunday by Hezbollah rockets.

8. Yes, that's what I'm seeing, also
But whatever the picture, the death of civilians doesn't discriminate betweeen borders, religions or ethnicities. The violence must stop!

PEACE!

9. Agreed without reservation
That's why I mentioned the two Israelis who were killed. It's just I realized after clicking to see the photo that the reaction I was reading above probably wasn't over a bombed out factory.

I sure wish one side or the other would grow a real pair and put a stop to their part in this misery.

Peace right back at you! :)

10. HERE'S THE PHOTO

The mother is dying from shrapnel. She comforts her son.

How is this violence justified?

11. Here it is without the Getty thing. Thank you, zippy890, for directing
attention to this moving image. I will remember it for a long time. It shows a mother whose love for her child is very, very strong.

12. It is a sad picture. This whole thing is sad.
Where ever you are this is some type of evil from people who do not care.

19. Few times have I seen a picture so sad and so filled with love.
A mother reaches up to comfort her son, possibly her last act as he grieves her impending death. Mankind will never invent words which accurately convey the simple truths about love, pain and the murder of innocents which this picture contains.

21. !!
Did anyone find out why the NYT removed this photo from their front page very early this morning?? It deserves to be seen. Thank you for sharing it.

And in answer to your question (although I suspect it was rhetorical), this is not justifiable. Not in the least.

...with her big smile and sunglasses up on her head. So out of context with the seriousness of the situation.
