White House press release calls for Israel to hit Syria (Meet the Press)
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/39374/

On Meet the Press, Tim Russert points out a stunning press release from the White House Communications Office. The release, titled Setting The Record Straight, calls for Israel to attack Syria:

"It's time to let the Israelis take off the gloves…. Israel needs to hit the Assas regime. Hard."

Yes, the White Communications Office is officially endorsing an Israeli attack on Syria!

1. That's a little crazy
Not entirely unexpected - some NeoCons seem to have come to the conclusion that since the US can't fulfill their dreams of reshaping the middle east, maybe Israel can.

37. What the hell kind of a press release is that?
It was 80% pundit quotes. The press prints what the administration says, while the administration issues press releases derived from what the press prints.

Where does this shit come from in the first place?

39. Tony Snow. Russert showed the release, attributing it to Snow.
Issued by the WH communications Office. (Maybe Snow thought Russert was on board.)

The White House does not have the release posted. I don't think Russert would make it up. He's been a friend of the White House.

45. Talking points against David Gregory
It has absolutely nothing to do with White House policy and certainly doesn't "call for" anything at all. It's just a list of rebuttals against David Gregory's reporting, nothing more.

I swear to god I don't know if people don't care what they read and distort it on purpose, or whether they really are incapable of objective reading comprehension.

16. Doesn't the US have a rule or policy that any weapons sold to Israel MUST
not be used in any offensive manner. Only for Defense so I guess that is why they are proclaiming so boldly that Israel is only defending itself. I find it almost impossible to believe any right thinking person could say with a straight face that the kidnapping of two people was an all out attack on any country. Why oh why is America so retarded in this day and age. We used to be an enlightened country with a higher education the whole world envied. Now apparently we have a third grade level approach to the world.

22. Of course they're endorsing an Israeli attack on Syria.
In fact I'm surprised that they didn't call for an Israeli attack on Iran too. Because if that goes down, then Bushco can cook up a viable excuse to jump into the fray, invade Syria and Iran, and thus fulfill all of the PNAC dreams of ME hegemony.

This is also why Bushco has drug its feet on negotiating a cease fire, and has been cheerleading Israel on and providing expedited aid to the Israelis.

Hezbollah arrests two Israeli soldiers
date: 12 07, 2006
Beirut, July. 12 (BNA) The Lebanese Hezbollah movement announced Wednesday the arrest of two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese police said that the two soldiers were arrested as they entered the town of Aitaa al-Chaab inside the Lebanese border. Israeli aircraft were active in the air over southern Lebanon, police said, with jets bombing roads leading to the market town of Nabatiyeh, 60 kilometers south of Beirut.

It's war by any other name
By Sami Moubayed

DAMASCUS - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert described what is happening in Lebanon as saying. "This is an act of war." Olmert is correct. This is war. It has been war, non-stop, since 1948. What is happening in Lebanon today is yet another chapter of bloody Middle East events that will last for generations to come, because it is impossible, after so many years of conflict, for the Israelis and Arabs to forgive and forget.
snip
It all started on July 12 when Israel troops were ambushed on Lebanon's side of the border with Israel. Hezbollah, which commands the Lebanese south, immediately seized on their crossing. They arrested two Israeli soldiers, killed eight Israelis and wounded over 20 in attacks inside Israeli territory.

This unleashed hell in Israel, and Olmert immediately responded by mounting a war on Lebanon. A sea, air and ground blockade was enforced on Lebanon, and a systematic destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure was began.

with the U.S. siding with Israel and colluding with Israel on these matters, wouldn't the other nations such as China, Russia, Iran, etc. all be getting a tad frustrated at us? And wouldn't they possibly try to preempt the United States by attacking us?

Thanks to Bush foreign policy all of us are at risk.

31. Thank you for a very informative post

I have been bloggin all week trying to point out the key issue is what the Bush adminstration will do with this situation. People tend to forget (lord nows how!) that the US is under the control of a bunch of fanatical wack jobs who are chomping at the bit for a war with both Syria and Iran.

People logically point out that it is an incredibly stupid idea to attack Iran or Syria, and that we do not have the resources. But, they are forgetting that reality holds no water with this adminstration, and they do what they want unconstrained by facts, logic, and objective reasoning.

I personally find it terrifying that they are in control. People are still underestimating their capacity for depraved actions.

You think after almost six years, we would have learned.

Thanks again.

The same elements within the US government who wanted to play hard ball with the Russians back then, are now in control of the US government.
