The information coming out of Turkey in the last week is scary. The only good news is that the WHO is finally getting around to doing what they should have done after the first outbreak in Asia. We'll finally have some useful information if they don't hide it from us. Well, we should have it in a few weeks. I don't expect the WHO to work quicker than that and that is only one of many problems with them running this clusterfuck waiting to happen. I can't believe H5N1 has been so kind to us as to wait for the fuck ups to catch up.

That's actually the best argument for the possibility that H5N1 won't do the necessary genetic shift. I wish we had more than that to hang our hats on.

It's a potential winner for the Bush administration either way. I'm way confused about why they haven't pounced on it. I truly don't get it.

Thing is, I agree with the OP here (which is strange because I've been watching the avian flu situation very carefully and it is very concerning). I'm wondering why Bush hasn't done the shell game terra alert blah blah blah yet. He's got some serious problems going on so this is the prime time to scare the sheeple and the news out of Turkey is bad and can be spun much worse.

After all, Mr. K and I were watching the news tonight (our "local" news comes out of L.A.), and there were "warnings" but "no credible terrorist threats made" against Los Angeles.

It's just a matter of the next few days, and whether the threat of the boogeyman in Los Angeles is enough to inspire panic and blind worshipping of The Chimp and his Homeland Screw-You Agency.
