DLC: Jewish donors might be inclined to direct their support to the GOP |
|
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3626796/<snip> As we mentioned on Friday, one of the backdrops to the DLC confab in Denver is what Lieberman's fate in his August 8 primary could mean for centrists and the party. DLC senior fellow Marshall Wittmann told First Read that a Lieberman primary loss would be disastrous: "The Democratic Party could come out looking weaker on national security," he said. "The Democratic Party (would be) turning its back on one of it national security spokesmen." He also speculated that national Republicans could use Lieberman's loss as a way to reach out to more Orthodox Jews simply by highlighting how liberal Democrats took down one of their own. We'd add that Jewish donors to the Democratic party might also be more inclined to direct their support to the GOP -- particularly at a time when the President and Republican lawmakers are solidly backing Israel in its battle with Hezbollah.

1. Take your financial blackmail and shove it up your *ss! Remember... |
|
...the Democratic Party is the party of Human Rights in the United States.
The Democratic party is not against Israel, just the war crimes, collective punishment and the crimes against humanity that the Israeli military has and will commit in the name of "self-defence".

18. Republicans failed on national security on 9-11-2001 |
|
As soon as the plane hit the world trade center on 9-11-2001 killing people, the Republicans lost their credibility on National Security right at that moment.
Who really believes the lie that Republicans could defend America and keep us safe?
Not me.

2. We don't need any single issue fools. |
|
If people think supporting Israeli aggression is the most important issue, the GOP is welcome to them. Or worse, supporting a "Democrat" who supports the Iraq debacle, just because he is Jewish.

3. More DLC fear, do they know fear is a root character of conservatism? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 09:42 AM by HereSince1628
Don't they realize the Democratic base is finding that voting for fearful representatives is pointless?
Why do they think Independents are looking for opposition to Bush by invisioning voting in favor Democrats?

4. The "Bend over and Smile" wing of the party speaks. |
|
What's truly pathetic is that they're still selling the same smelly, half-baked, Republican crappola, and the Dem "leaders" are still buying it.

No wonder the DLC has lost its way on the path. Principles should rule out all other competition.

8. A single primary in a single state, |
|
done exactly the way these things are supposed to work, has completely unhinged the DLC and Washington establishment. I've never seen so many Cassandras wailing and tearing their hair at once. What a bunch of weak-kneed hypocritical cowards. Hey fuckheads, we're the purists, remember?

9. Something tells me they didn't ask any Jewish donors. |
|
While Israel is a very important issue, it isn't one that's going to change a huge amount of votes in the Jewish community. I don't think there is a single Jew on this board that will vote Republican because of Israel- especially considering that the Republicans want Israel to go to war, a move that could get the country destroyed.

11. I'm directing the following comment across the board |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 09:58 AM by Solly Mack
and it relates to all issues
this could be about anything...gay(human) rights, womens(human) rights, I/P I/L, Iraqi war, Patriot Act, 9-11, terror...etc
Is that what it has come to? Making decisions on how to respond based on who might not vote for you?
Where's the integrity in that kind of thinking?

13. And what will that money be used for? It will go right into the coffers |
|
of the war profiteering corporate news monopolies, for stupid TV commercials that everybody hates and laughs at anyway!
To pad the pockets of the people who brought us the Iraq War.
I keep waiting for some politician to stand up and run for president with a pledge to accept no more than $25 from any person, and no TV ads. I think he/she would win. People are so fed up!
Join the protest of ordinary citizens! Bust the machines--VOTE ABSENTEE! It's already happening and it's going to be big (up to 50% in Los Angeles already). Boycott the machines! It won't get us an accurate count (AB votes are also miscounted) but it WILL make the purchasers of all this expensive, shiny, new, election theft technology look like the corrupt fools that they are, and pave the way for reform! It will help voter turnout and it will turn voting into an active PROTEST rather than a passive act. Anybody got any better ideas for November? I haven't heard any. I think this has the potential to foment American Revolution II. BOYCOTT THE MACHINES! What good are they, if nobody will vote on them?
Until we have restored transparent elections, we can't reform anything else, including corporate war profiteer domination of our airwaves, and including humongous military budgets, meant for defense, used by fascists to start wars of choice.
BOYCOTT THE MACHINES--VOTE ABSENTEE!

22. Fine. It would certainly hurt in the short term but in the long term |
|
it would free the Democratic Party to say things it cannot say now. Such a liberation is badly needed in U.S. politics. Lieberman isn't going down because he's Jewish and he isn't going down because CT voters think he is an agent for a foreign government; he's going down because of his blind support for a disastrous war led by a disaster of a president. Both the war and the president are unpopular and Lieberman's support is dragging him down. If and when he is defeated it would behoove Israel to take a long look at the result. For them, it may be a blessing in disguise (to me, it would simply be a blessing).
