Help find DU'ers missing 13 year old daughter in Colorado Springs
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 12:47 PM by Oreo
There have been several threads posted in the DU Lounge about this but it looks like a lot of people have missed it. I just found it b/c somebody posted in the CO forum.
The missing child is reyd reid reed's and not my own. I just wanted ot get the word out in a wider format.

But my daughter needs all your positive energy, prayers, vibes...whatever you can spare. She kissed me goodnight last night and I haven't seen her since. She wasn't in her bed this morning...apparently she snuck out at some point last night...but she meant to come back. Her clothes are all here...she took the garage door opener so she could get back in...her makeup's all here...her EYELINER is here.

She's not.

She's thirteen years old and I'm scared half to death.

No...there's no 'half' about it.

I've never been so terrified in my life.

17. It's believed to be a runaway, not an abduction or a lost child
seems to be the logic. Amber Alerts and all of that involve abductions, this seems to be a case of someone slipping out at night. And Reid has only given us bits and pieces of the story, I'm sure there is more that we don't know. As you can imagine, she's been a bit preoccupied, and hasn't written a long, detailed account. She seems to think her daughter ran off, and is staying with friends who she can't find.

She's a good friend of many in the Lounge, we are all scared for her, and hoping her daughter winds up home in a hurry to face stern disciplinary actions. It would be great if she were there already, and Reid is too busy hugging her and grounding her to tell us.

10. My niece did this.....
My prayers are with you that your daughter is home before I even finish typing this.

One of my niece's issues was after she had been away for so long, she was afraid to come home.

We were able to get on the local news and get the message out, which helped a lot. The people she was staying with saw the news broadcast even though it was very brief.

Punch each phone number into a google search and google will show you the address.
I know this becuase I became terrified when i found out about it. it is an invasion of privacy, but in this instance might help you.

It's sounds like it's some sort of VOIP service or something which will usually not show up.

I don't have any specifics about your area but there are sites listed in the thread that the parents can register her at.

The more people who know she's missing the better. Never let anyone sweep a runaway case under the rug!

45. Portland OR?
If so, tough case for runaways. Oregon does not pick them up, they aren't breaking any laws here. It also has a pretty big street/drug crowd. If you've got a picture, post it and I'll put it in the Oregon forum so Portland people can keep an eye out.

Lost kids are lost kids, politics really don't enter into that situation at all.

I had a night when I tried to keep up with my more adventerous friends and the combination of drinks all hit me at one time. I had to sleep it off at someone's house before they could even drive me home. They were more scared than I was and didn't approach my parents until the next holiday.

I know it's Summer, but if a school directory was handed out last school year, I would start calling the students in her class. Someone might have heard about some party or gathering that *could* generate more leads.

How much does it cost to hire a detective? I would donate to this cause if it comes to that.

48. I just had a weird thought.
Even if it's absurd, may as well throw it out there, because you never know. Isn't Colorado Springs a real fundie center? I'm thinking, do you have to be a fundie to get any action from the powers that be, the cops, etc. I'm also thinking--and I know it sounds absurd--could she have gotten mixed up with a group of young fundies trying to convert her? As I said, I know it's absurd, but this whole story is already absurd considering that nobody would help a mother with a missing 13-year-old child!!!

My neighbor is a cop. He's a helluva good man.

Stop pre-judging people you know NOTHING about.

It's always sad when a teenager runs away from home....but it's hardly the fault of the police.

Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 10:06 AM by IndependentVoice
lets keep the focus on whats really important. And how is it prejudging if your judging based on their inaction? Hes not saying cops are bad, but that this particular group needs to get their act together and look for a 13 year old girl who has been missing for two days now. It is a known fact that in a missing persons case that the first 48 hours are the most important in finding a person who has been missing, at this rate they won't start looking until well after that.

131. it's not about you, it's not about your neighbor
it's about these cops in this town who think this is a runaway when the child clearly meant to run out for only a moment, she left her purse, her make-up, come on! she meant to run back in and her mother was never to know she'd left the house

i'm sorry i will judge THOSE cops for their inaction

my comment stands

115. Yep, she took the remote to get back in
decided to runaway and then left her MAKEUP and all her other stuff behind?? No way. This sounds like she went to meet someone with EVERY intention of coming back in.

The last number she called, the ones who said they do not KNOW her..that is the effing key to ALL this. Someone in that house, or associated with that number, knows..I would be banging on that door, asking questions....especially if the cops aren't. This is the quote from the original missing daughter post:

"I found a number on the redial that she called last night and that matches one of the numbers on her list, but they swear they don't know her, that she's not there, that there's no one by the name that's on her list there..."

This SCREAMED to me the day she posted it...not logical at all for no one to know her at a number she herself called. This would be the first place I went, with a photo in hand and flanking cops.

My prayers are on a swift recovery of this child from wherever she is, in good health and spirits...and peace to the parents to continue their search in a logical, or illogical if necessary, manner...to stay focused and filled with hope.

86. My daughter was gone for 2 days at 14 - here's what I did and it worked
I called EVERY friend of hers and spoke to the child and the parents. I told each of them that if for any reason they allowed her to stay with them without notifying me, that I would hold them legally responsible.

My husband, other family members and I also constantly drove by and stopped in at EVERY friend's house and all their favorite hangouts. She finally came home 2 days later when everyone refused to hang out with her or let her stay at their house. They were all calling me "the stalker" but it worked.

Luckily, she never tried it again. She was upset because of her curfew time and that she wasn't allowed to date. None of my rules changed.

If she has a cell phone, call EVERY number from your bills. Ask every friend you know about if there are others you don't know about. I was surprised to find an entire group of friends I had never met nor heard of.

Good luck. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

87. from the other threads,
it seems the daughter did not have a cell phone and the mother has been tracking all calls from the home. She's also checked out the computer and myspace accounts. She did find one number called right before Sarah left, but it doesn't appear on reverse directories and now seems to be disconnected. The local police seem to be of no help in this area.

I join you in wishing my best and keeping them in my thoughts!!

102. I called the FBI and they found her within several hours
about 500 miles away, tracing the phone number - she was gone for about a day

at the time she had just turned 13 and the guy is serving time in federal prison.

The local police was dumbfounded when they came for a courtesy visit and found the FBI swooped down on our house. (I had reported it the previous day to the police, and they told me policy is anyone between 13 and 65 they do not specifically go look for - so they can't assign resources)

The FBI has a special Internet Crime Against Children unit - the strange phone number is suspect, I am afraid.

In any event - it is worth a shot

I'm sure they would go for a missing child report. Then if they interview you can mention how the police are not helping at all and start a petition to have them get a warrent, then go back and check the cab companies records. Just throwing an idea out there.
