Bush Orders Humanitarian Aid to Lebanon - Opposes an Immediate Cease-Fire
Bush Orders Humanitarian Aid to Lebanon
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

Monday, July 24, 2006

(07-24) 10:45 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

President Bush has ordered helicopters and ships to Lebanon to provide humanitarian aid, but he still opposes an immediate cease-fire that could give relief from a 13-day-old Israeli bombing campaign.

Announcing the assistance program, White House press secretary Tony Snow said Monday there was no reason to believe an immediate cease-fire would stop violence in the Mideast and said instead the world should confront the destabilizing force of Hezbollah and its practice of using the Lebanese people as "human shields."

Israel's bombardment has demolished Lebanon's infrastructure and killed hundreds. It began after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers.

"At the order of the president, humanitarian supplies will start arriving in Lebanon tomorrow by helicopter and by ship," Snow announced at the White House. "We are working with Israel and Lebanon to open up humanitarian corridors."

2. He's partially to blame for not supporting a cease fire; is the
humanitarian aid to assuage his guilt?

7. Na! The aid is being provided by Haliburton and KBR
The military industrial complex is raking in money on both ends. Sell weapons and bombs to Israel - sell humanitarian aid to the Lebanese. Great time to have stock in Haliburton, wouldn't you say so Dick?

4. I believe that info is incorrect
I read somewhere on DU (people, help this old lady out) that Israel had first kidnapped a doctor and his family (?), and this is when Hezbollah kidnapped the soldier.

If this info is correct, we should be shouting it to the rooftops.

9. You are correct about the doctor and his brother. Although
Lebanon has given assurances that the two soldiers are unharmed, Isreal has given no word as to the fate of the doctor and his brother.

14. I'm stilll waiting for a report about that supposed doctor and son. Only
Chomsky has mentioned this. How is he, a non-journalist, privy to that information when absolutely no other source is?
