Have you been accused of anti-semitism on DU?
I think it is disgusting the way that accusation is flying around here. As I am disgusted with the people that do it. The people that are con-Israel aren't con-Jews, they are con-war. Why can't the pro-Israel people see this?

3. I've been accused of anti-semitism and zionism...
Go figure? I guess that is what you get when you think both sides are in the wrong, and that there never should have been a war.

20. Isn't it funny, Ben?
On a thread about the Israeli aggression, I was called "anti-semitic", but earlier, on a thread of a different topic, a poster said that it was "obvious" that I was a "Jew". So...I am not sure where that leaves me...

War and violence is the choice of mental midgets who cant work it out otherwise. It doesnt matter who the combatants are.

Odd how the pure in their own minds think they know exactly what you are thinking. Personally I think they're just too scared to contemplate saying no to Israel.

12. Yes. Opposing Israeli policies is a sure sign of anti-semitism.
Just like opposing Bush's policies is anti-Christian or Robert Mugabe's is anti-black. Might as well throw in Anti-Asian cuz I oppose the government of Burma's policies.

21. The U.S. policy toward "Burma"
The US doesn't recognize the current regime in Myanmar. That is why US officials don't call it "Myanmar" they call it "Burma"

14. Tightly knit closed community that dismisses most outside criticism...
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 01:21 PM by Junkdrawer
However, Israel used to have a fairly healthy INTERNAL debate. Several years ago, I remember hearing an article on NPR where a formally anti-war Israeli said: "I used to oppose Likud's actions, but now I'm in agreement..." and I thought "Here we go". :(

15. Yes, but I know I'm not anti-semitic so I consider
the accusation unjust. Many Arabs also make the distinction between Jews and Israelis. I know this to be true. One of my Jewish friends and I had a Lebanese family we were friends with in common. We had many discussions about this and the family made the distinction between Jew and the country of Israel.

Also, they knew that not all Israelis were happy with the right wing nutjobs in their government that escalate the violence nor where they happy with the terrorist Hezbollah and Hamas organizations within their country. They believe that the Israli treatment of the Palestinians was what was at fault. When Israel does unjust things, they should be called on it. It has nothing to do with being anti-semitic.

Because I can't understand why Israeli deaths over the last 3+ years haven't registered on DU at all, and are still laughed off - see thread "An Israeli died today".

23. Please allow me to explain this calmly from someone............
.....who has been accused of being "anti-Arab", "pro-Israel", "pro-Semitic" and who knows what else.

I definitely DO NOT want to start a flame war here so I'm going to try and explain this - I'm speaking only for myself - as calmly as possible and let everyone flame away if they choose to. I'll check back in a few days to see if this thread still exists.

The "pro-Israel" crowd as I've been accused of being ALSO is "con-war, anti-war" believe it or not.

The difference, at least for me, is that day after day and month after month when Israel endured suicide bombings, backpack bombings, the world didn't seem too awfully interested then. Sure, there may have been a few outcries here and there but not NEAR AS LOUD as we are hearing now. Let's face it the world is all but tar and feathering Israel right now, including most of DU. So the "pro-Israel", "pro-Jews", and apparently what some people view as the "pro-war" crowd, that I'm evidently a part of, has seen and does see what seems like a double standard.

I know, I know, some are going to say the Jews are living on Arab land, and they took more land during a given war. Well, guess what?? The UN set up the country of Israel, so I think if anyone has a problem with where Israel is they should go to the UN instead of beating up on Israel about it.

No I am NOT into the "End Times", "Rapture", "bring on real life Revelations" crowd either.

All I'm saying in one way or another, is if bombing the crap out of Arabs/Muslims is wrong then suicide bombers taking out dozen and hundred of innocents day after day after day is also definitely wrong.

I just want FAIR AND EQUAL TREATMENT on BOTH SIDES and at ALL TIMES.
