VIDEO: Boxer gets defensive at Lieberman event...
Maura and CTBob had quite the face off with Barbara Boxer today when they tried to dodge the public in an event only annnounced to the press at a local candy store normally closed on Mondays. (You’ll remember Maura from her encounter with Lieberman when the dog ate Joe Biden’s train schedule.) She showed up today to press Boxer about rubber stamping Lieberman’s awful reproductive rights record, and Boxer’s comments about Holy Joe and his "short ride" advice to rape victims were, to put it mildly, enlightening.

Maura will have her account later on but get a load of this arrogance that CTBob caught on video (YouTube above). She obviously has accepted the lie Lieberman has floated to many press people — he never made the "short ride" comment. (Oh really?) But I’ve heard he’s floated the same line with several journalists. Boxer also goes on to rudely proclaim to Maura, a strong Connecticut pro-choice advocate who was asking her a polite question, that her position and Lieberman’s position on emergency rape contraception are one and the same.

14. soooo...why does she think she "needs" to do this?
and the excuse "so-and-so's a red state that needs to be treated 'delicately'" won't work, since she represenents California. I like her, but want an explanation--that's why I like her, she's responsive

3. Wow.
Just wow.

Is there no one in the Democratic Party today that hasn't lost their minds? I feel like this is a bad dream. That video made me feel sick.

5. How is politicians voicing their support for a politician
you don't like a threat to Democracy?

There are plenty of threats to Democracy, but not sure I see this one.

11. It's Not Just The Support Of a Politician.... It's Also Support For
Israel and their attack on Lebanon under the guise of whatever they want to call it! In my lifetime, I have NEVER EVER heard of a time that there wasn't some sort of fighting going on in the ME, and we just keep on keeping on!!

I'm sick of it! And I'm not Jewish, Arab or really anything... just born in America, that's all!

12. If I read the same thing, Conyers is no supporting aggression
He says Hezbollah "should be dismantled" but that the conflict can not be resolved militarily. The part saying that the violence was sparked by Hamas and Hezbollah is a bit biased though.

I can understand saying that they'll support whoever the primary winner is, but this is between Lieberman, Lamont and the CT voters. No other Democrat should get involved, on either side.

Edited for speeeeeling.

10. this is what we should be doing.
Look, we're neither giving Boxer a free pass nor throwing her under the bus. We're asking the hard questions to make sure she's doing her job, because she's our employee. That's called oversight. We can love her and challenge her at the same time-- remember, it's the Republicans who see things and people in black-and-white, not us.

Bravo.

13. That's indicative of the contempt they have for the people.
And that is what it is, contempt. They consider us beneath them, socially, intellectually, economically, in all manners. Even worse they are making sure that it is perpetuated through their actions in the Capitol. I wish she wouldn't have went there & I really wish she wouldn't have acted that way, a double shattering of illusion in my case. Bummer...

15. Kick and Recommend

Brutal to watch Boxer allowing herself to be reduced to lying for Lieberman.

I have always liked Boxer, but she set herself up for this travesty. I am sure her office has been besieged by calls referring to Lieberman's stance on emergency contraception. She disappointed me greatly with this appearance.

18. As one of Boxer's constituents
it is really too bad she put herself in this position of supporting joe and not knowing his statements. Hopefully, she will come away with just a few burns, but wiser with having learned some lessons. Stumping for Joementum is an accident (viral video event)happening in slow motion over and over and over again.

Boxer, I love ya, but it would be good to see her support go to Lamont:loveya: on August 9th.

25. We all loved Senator Boxer, but now

there is a big Red Flag up and we just don't quite trust her as much. She has disappointed her constituents and chosen to go with the Senate Boys Club, for reasons we may or may not figure out. We are watching Babs. It would be a horrific loss if she decides she's a Hillary wanna-be.

21. An appalling piece of video
And it's more than a little insulting to see public officials, whose salaries are paid by tax dollars, running away from citizens with cameras and microphones while their goons run interference. Stand up, answer the questions, and be a mensch. Nobody forced Lieberman or Boxer to be Senators, nobody made this career choice for them; if they don't want to answer questions from citizens, they should find other employment. But who else is going to pay them $160,000 a year and give them a huge expense account, and put them on the teevee?

Shame on Lieberman. Shame on Boxer.

Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 03:28 PM by insane_cratic_gal
When I see things like this, I really see a total disconnect from the "elected party" and the democratic party (we the people).

Our elected officials seems genuinely disconnected and have no idea what their supporters think or feel, or do not care.

I almost want to throw 90 percent of their asses out and just start fresh, I'm starting to agree with term limits.

23. I appreciate Senator Boxer's representation.
So I sent a polite email to her since she was not well informed on Sen. Lieberman's quote. I provided the source and the quote. I suggest that everyone provide to Sen. Boxer the sort of friendly guidence we provided with the roses last year. This time the guidance is not a thank you but more of a "no, walk this way".

http://boxer.senate.gov/contact/email/policy.cfm

Or flame her. But I think a deluge of gentile guidance might be helpful. Let her know we are watching.

27. I am really starting to hate Lieberthug.
The arrogance: "You're not gonna stop are you?" Sounds like his kissing buddy, *.

Damn right Joe. We're not gonna stop until we get rid of you. And if you don't know why by now, you're not worth educating.

And as for you, Sen. Boxer, you just lost a lot of my respect. If you are going to go to another state and support someone, at least be clear on his position on the issues. Don't try to tell us "what he meant".

Pathetic.
