I am so filled with loathing right now that it makes me feel ill.
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 03:25 PM by Skidmore
It feels like the world is crashing down around us and we have ugly neocons and warmongers on both sides of the aisle fanning the flames as they seek to scorch the earth, quite often in the name of deities and high principles. No one is talking; everyone is shouting--and no one is listening. People are dying needlessly, some in war, some from hunger, some from disease. And those who support this insanity will rabidly defend every missile--large and small--or excuse any atrocity--large or small. All the killing in the world will not fix past insults or bring back the dead. Nor will it create a path to peace. It will sow seeds of fear and revenge and hatred, which will grow on the fertile soil of discontent that has been turned. This conflagration is a crime against mankind and the earth. The contempt and loathing I feel right now for all who would sustain such suffering and pain frightens me. What right do any of them have to sow destruction?

3. I know that feeling
and I ask myself the exact same question "What right do any of them have to sow destruction?"...lasting, long term destruction. To perpetuate a cycle of hate and violence that will just continue because every abuse leaves a fresh wound and a long, bitter memory.

That makes me think that, what with our short collective memories,
maybe we really do occasionally need a world war just to 'bring home', to all of the neo-idiots who are bereft of any sense of history, what that sort of world looks and feels like. I vote we just schedule a global conflict every 40 or so years as a part of our educational system because nothing brings history to life like living through it.

8. I'm angry and frustrated, too .
I just got a fundraising letter from a senator. No mention of the hundreds dying every day in Iraq with no end in sight. No mention of Lebanon. Just money, money, money to keep their cushy jobs.

They can't stop campaigning for one day to address the crisis of people dying with our government's encouragement.

Besides Kucinich, who is standing up for peace?

13. I like the Lampoon's version better
Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.

Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right,
But that three lefts do.

Wherever possible put people on "HOLD".
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
And despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.
Remember the Pueblo.

Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you;
That lemon on your left for instance.

Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls,
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore; it will stick to your face.

Carefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan,
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
For a good time, call 606-4311.

Take heart amid the deepening gloom that your dog
Is finally getting enough cheese;
And reflect that whatever fortunes may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Sioux City.

You are a fluke of the Universe.
You have no right to be here, and whether you can hear it or not,
The Universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore make peace with your God whatever you conceive him to be,
Hairy Thunderer or Cosmic Muffin.

With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up.

going over and over and over the same old ground and none of us can get off. I feel the same way that you do.

When I saw that video this morning of the Lebanese woman with her two children in the hospital, kids who were burned by the bombs and she whose husband died in the bombing, just broke my heart and soul. But for the grace of God, it could be any of us.

This cannot keep going on like this.

People tell me, "Well stop watching the news". Stop watching the news, are you fucking crazy. This is what is being done in our name. This is why the world hates us. This is why we will never be safe.

28. OMG - optimistic? - LOL - I was hoping for realistic - sigh.
I guess I like to think that I channel my anger into whatever options seem to hold out some promise of success. I mean, I wouldn't regard fighting as pointless - even if you lose a battle or two. I'd just take a lesson and continue to pursue the war. In the end it's the war that counts. Don't let the heat get you down. Let it get the dolts down and bide your time. This crap started with the 60's and 70's feel-good promotion of 'self-esteem' in disregard of actually teaching something in our schools. Don't get me wrong, I engaged in my share of prankishness (more than most). I also had teachers who insisted on having the students apprehend the tools they would need to be functional. Then came 'self-esteem' promotion and skills were relegated to the level of 'optional'. This boat will not turn on a dime. It's going to take some involvement. That's not pointless.

More and more I'm seeing peace ribbons on cars. It is getting easier to talk about peace now that so many people are tired of the war.

BUT! when I see the taking of sides here on DU rather then working together for peace it makes me so mad.

Yes a country can defend itself but if the country could learn to live with it's neighbor there would not be a need to defend itself.

The gun never solves anything. It just sets up the lines for the next shoot out. Just think that if we were to trade with North Vietnam rather than fight them we could have saved 10 years of war. Yet today we trade with them. They are the same people and we are the same people.

Some just think of the shoot out as the one and only thing to do.

30. I refer to it as a seething outrage. Yeah, I'm angry, but not all of the
time, but it just doesn't take nearly as much to bring it to the surface as it did in the past.

I had truly hoped for a different state of mankind prior to having my children. Yet, they will be dealing with the seeds of destruction that have been sown. I've commented for a few years about making t-shirts for the entire family with a huge target on the back and 'thanks bush'. Not that he is totally responsible for all of this, but his arrogance, absense of any type of diplomacy, invading Iraq based on lies, etc., sure as hell hasn't helped anything. Social safety nets here are in tatters and for what? Tax cuts that weren't needed and for money to KILL.

My new mantra has been the standard, Kill them all, let God sort it out, because until humans decide to act like humans in the cause for a greater humanity, it sure does stick in in the faces of those who've made the choice to ignore it.

War is not good for any living thing.

31. I am filled with hate. Hate!
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 06:39 PM by crim son
Hate isn't something I've lived with before. I've built my personal relationships and my social outlook around the idea that we must all try to understand one another's perspective, and to the best of our abilities, cooperate. Distrust, dislike, loathing... these are counterproductive emotions. But I have them all now, for the goddamned fucking Pretzel and his ilk. The feeling is most certainly not limited to American politicians and voters any more. If I believed in end times, I would surely be expecting it any day now. Every putrid, arrogant, ignorant, self-righteous prick is in his/her glory.

I'm so angry that I've become sick and depressed. Today I came to the realization that I've been striving to find a way to return to the peace of my past, but it isn't possible. Everything is, indeed, different since 9/11.

This isn't very coherent. I don't care.

35. I know that feeling of missing my old life
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 09:15 PM by katinmn
When I had some carefree days if not weeks. When I didn't feel shame and guilt about what's being done in our names. When I didn't feel the urge to scream at the top of my lungs and grab the Bushbots by the lapels and yell: "Wake up!"

Now I spend all my free time at rallies and marches, making phone calls, going to meetings, writing anti-Bush articles, letters, signing petitions.

I want to feel carefree but I can't. Not when I read 55% of the people killed in Lebanon are under age 15. Not when I know 100+ people in Iraq are dying each day because of US.

It sucks to be an American. I can only imagine what the Iraqis and the Palestinians and the Lebanese are going through.

I feel that some extraordinarily bad things are going to be happening in the near future, not that things aren't already bad enough. The fact that the ME and much of Asia could slip into WW III, and the distinct feeling that global warming is accelerating at a much, much faster rate than anyone expected. There won't be a living person or thing on the planet that won't be affected in the coming days/months/years.
