The World Will Be Filled With Bloodshed and Mayhem... |
|
The world will be filled with bloodshed and mayhem; until the human race finds the will to crawl out of the sewer of mythology. We will continue to hack and tear at each other as long as we hold that “our book” is the truth and “their book” is false.
The age of enlightenment gave man a chance to pull himself up from the stink of religious prejudice. Some peeked out of that cesspool and it scared the living crap out of them. Like frightened rabbits, they scurried back into that excrement filled cave, chained themselves back to improbable possibilities and once more called the shadows, reality.
There is little hope to escape the carnage, until we become smarter than Uoog and Thuuug; remember if you might, lightening bolts are not spears hurled by the Gods and we can live in the sunlight, not in the shadows of the cave.

We would be peacemakers who love our neighbor.

3. I think the only book the US is trying to follow |

is a bank book. Muslim extremists are reacting the way most any extremists would when their world is seemingly invaded on all fronts by opposing and dangerous idealologies. Is either side blameless or innocent? Hell no, but this is where we are. We can either evolve as a race together past warfare or we will inevitably destroy ourselves.

4. Not all religious people believe in prejudice... |
|
In fact, if it weren't for belief in a higher power, most of the rights that we have today would not exist. Even our Declaration of Independence bases our inalienable rights on the fact that a creator does exist and that he loves us all without prejudice. If there is no Creator, then that document is just a load of crap. Real or not, the belief in morality, in the power of faith and in the pervasive nature of Love has given you the rights you enjoy today. If you choose to crawl back into the excrement filled cave where morality is defined by human designs, you're more than welcome but I suggest you become a Republican first because that's exactly what they believe.

6. I believe in the sunshine of Human Responsibility |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 05:17 PM by Montagnard
I believe in the sunshine of "Human Responsibility" without an escape clause for our ill deeds. I, also, believe in history. That is looking back at the fruits of our journey. When viewed, our past history is replete with the evidence of the "human kindness" whose creator was mythology and results were the broken bodies strewn within the bloody carnage.

Who defines morality? Who determines what is bad and what is good? If there is no ideal Good for which we strive then an ill deed is merely an arbitrary human definition and not an absolute. If you allow man to determine morality then might can make right, slavery can be moral, murder can be justified. Your post is a very dangerous call because it can ultimately justify all the acts perpetrated by evil people such as the Evil Bush Regime. They are actively engaged in a battle to label anything that they do as moral and good and anything not to their liking as immoral and bad. Without some absolute good to measure their actions against, all they would need is will and perseverance and all their actions could eventually be considered moral and good. If you believe in the sunshine of Human Responsibility, who is it that defines our obligations to our fellow man? If it is other humans that define what's right, then morality, goodness, decency, faith, honor and love cannot exist because they would be merely an abstraction derived from propaganda and myth.

enough with the "my ideology is better than yours" it's not any different than those who say their religion is better than another
Stalin is a great example of life in an atheistic state, and we know all those bodies strewn under his rule weren't about his God being better than anyone's God
