Hadassah Lieberman works for "Hill & Knowlton Lobby firm! (Enron/BCCI)
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 06:32 PM by KoKo01
Sen. Lieberman has long been known to cultivate the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, which provide jobs in his home state and contributions to his campaign fund. But he has literally been sleeping with one of their Washington representatives ever since his wife, Hadassah, joined Hill & Knowlton last year. The legendary lobbying and PR firm hired her as a “senior counselor” in its “health and pharmaceuticals practice.”

This news marked Hadassah Lieberman’s return to consulting after more than a decade of retirement. “I have had a life-long commitment to helping people gain better health care,” she said in the press release announcing her new job. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with the talented team at Hill & Knowlton to counsel a terrific stable of clients toward that same goal.”

It would be uplifting to imagine that Hill & Knowlton—after spending the past decade as a defendant in tobacco class-action lawsuits because of its role in propaganda disputing the deadly effects of smoking—is now devoted to improving everybody’s health. More likely, the firm remains devoted to improving the profits of its clientele, which has historically included Enron, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, Saudis, Kuwaitis, American International Group and Boeing.

1. Hill & Knowlton was behind the incubator babies
lie that helped get us into Gulf War 1. They should be in prison.

BTW, that link doesn't work.

4. IIRC, Hill & Knowlton are the guys who
made up the stories about Iraqi forces looting incubators from Kuwaiti hospitals, leaving the babies to die. Those stories were a factor swaying public opinion behind Gulf War I.

5. When is a job actually a political payoff?
When a firm this big hands a high-level position
to a person WHO HASN'T WORKED IN TEN YEARS!

That's when.

If her last name was Smith, she wouldn't even be able
to get a job in their mailroom. This "job" of hers is
nothing but evidence of CORRUPTION.

Holy Joe has got to GO.

7. I dunno...but "Holy Joe & Hadassah did good work for Bush in 2000...
with those "military votes" getting counted....so who knows. Maybe his wife just got bored at "home" and lucked out in a cushey job.

Wouldn't it be great if WE DU'ers had spouses who were so lucky? coincidence? So MANY...coincidences lately. Just be glad to be born under a "lucky star."

8. And here's some scoop on where she worked previously
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 06:41 PM by Emit
The MoJo Wire (Mother Jones)

On May 13, 1993, Sen. Lieberman's wife (who in 1993 worked for the National Academy of Sciences, and who now works for APCO Associates--a DC lobbying firm) purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in USX Corp. (formerly US Steel).

On the same day (May 13), a bill was introduced in the Senate that would cause USX some concern. The bill was S. 965: TOXIC CLEANUP EQUITY ACT...To amend the Comprehensive Environmental Response and Compensation Act of 1980 to provide relief to local taxpayers, municipalities, and small businesses regarding the cleanup of hazardous substances (Referred to Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; Not Enacted). This bill was introduced to prevent industrial polluters from passing liability onto small businesses and municipalities. ...

~snip~

POLITICAL MONEY NOTES: On June 30, 1993 (1 and 1/2 months after the stock purchase), Sen. Lieberman received $2,000 from Richard F. Lerach (a class-action attorney for USX Corp.). I believe that Richard Lerach is related to William Lerach (a class-action attorney with the San Diego firm of Milberg, Weiss, Bershad, Hynes and Lerach). William Lerach specializes in SHAREHOLDER class-action suits against firms and their management; these suits contend misinformation related to stock purchases.

MORE POLITICAL MONEY NOTES: On June 30, 1993, Sen. Lieberman received $10,000 from the Bergreen family. Bernard Bergreen is employed by the Gilman Paper Company (one of the top-three industrial polluters in Georgia). Karen Bergreen is employed by the lobbying firm Winston Strawn. Also working for Winston Strawn is former Rep. Eckart (co-author of the 1986 Superfund law). Through Winston Strawn, former Rep. Eckart is counsel to (i.e., lobbyist for) the American Insurance Association regarding Superfund legislation. In 1993, Sen. Lieberman received $2,000 from the American Insurance Association, including a $1,000 contribution on April 15, 1993 (one month before the USX stock purchase).

~snip~

SPOUSE NOTES: According to a September 19, 1994 article in Roll Call, Sen. Lieberman's wife (Hadassah) now works for the lobbying firm APCO Associates. A senior Vice-President of APCO is Michael Lewan (former aid to Sen. Lieberman). APCO does lobby on legislation concerning hazardous waste (one example client--Heart of America Northwest in Seattle, WA).

On edit, did you know that Michael Ledeen's wife works as an aide to Rick Santorum?

9. Oh Dear GOD! or whatever...Why didn't our Dems VET both Lieberman
& his Wife in 2000? Why????????

How did we end up with this. It's up to US to now VET Candidates?

We need to be very careful in the FUTURE when Dems run to check BOTH OUT!

Howie Kurtz's wife is a Repug PR FIRM..who worked for Schwartzenegger and most Reporters in DC have Spouses who work for either Lobbyists or other Newspapers.

Hey..not dissing Wives and Hubbies BOTH WORKING....but when does NEPOTISM start to look like CRONYISM? Can one be "totally innocent sharing the same bed and house and children? When does "pillow talk" become EMPIRE TALK?

10. This is acceptable to them.
They were vetted and approved. This is a prime example of why they don't want the grassroots getting in and messing things up. This is working very well for a certain circle of people as it stands now and they really would prefer that the "rabble" remain in their place.

though. WHY is IT that I still expect our Dems to be "cleaner" than the Repugs. I hate to think I'm still that innocent after all this muck for years..:-(

12. Not only their wives but their children, too!
Cheney's daughter (can't recall which one and have no link but it was posted a few weeks ago) and Simone Ledeen's daughter:

Occupied Iraq was just as Simone Ledeen had imagined -- ornate mosques, soldiers in formation, sand blowing everywhere, "just like on TV." The 28-year-old daughter of neoconservative pundit Michael Ledeen and a recently minted MBA, she had arrived on a military transport plane with the others and was eager to get to work.

They had been hired to perform a low-level task: collecting and organizing statistics, surveys and wish lists from the Iraqi ministries for a report that would be presented to potential donors at the end of the month. But as suicide bombs and rocket attacks became almost daily occurrences, more and more senior staffers defected. In short order, six of the new young hires found themselves managing the country's $13 billion budget, making decisions affecting millions of Iraqis.

Viewed from the outside, their experience illustrates many of the problems that have beset the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), a paucity of experienced applicants, a high turnover rate, bureaucracy, partisanship and turf wars. But within their group, inside the "Green Zone," the four-mile strip surrounded by cement blast walls where Iraq's temporary rulers are based, their seven months at the CPA was the experience of a lifetime. It was defined by long hours, patriotism, friendship, sacrifice and loss.

The CPA was designed to be a grand experiment in nation-building, a body of experts who would be Iraq's guide for transforming itself into a model for democracy in the Middle East. Unlike previous reconstruction efforts, it was to be manned by civilians -- advisers on politics, law, medicine, transportation, agronomy and other key areas. They were supposed to be experts, but many of the younger hires who filled the CPA's hallways were longer on enthusiasm than on expertise.

13. Your post is a "Blockbuster Read" for Newbie DU'ers who don't know
the extent of the "Nepotism" that went on with Iraq Invasion/US Coalition Provision Authority" amongst the children of the RW Think Tank Parents. "Heritage Foundation Kids" got great Spring/Summer Jobs setting up "Iraq Stock Market" and probably "brown bagging" in lots of schemes for bucks with the Contractors." :-(

It kind of went down the "Memory Hole" even though this "WaPo" article was posted and re-posted here on DU.

So many CRIMES...so LITTLE TIME to read and catalog it all. It's good that DU'ers keep "FILES" on those "Memory Hole" articles.

We need to keep firing away at the Repugs...and our FILES are our WEAPONS!

Many Thanks for posting this! :hi: It's one of the best reads about how the NeoCon's reaped benefits on the backs of the Iraqi's.
