Funny thing reading DU lately, seems I remember a RW preface to things |
|
they say.
Here on DU you hear "I'm not anti-immigration, but," and now "I'm not anti-Israel, but."
Hard to keep the vision of the mean old blue-haired republican lady looking both ways before saying "well, I'm not a racist, but..." from coming up.

5. Please, help me understand the whole straw man phrase. |
|
I've read that reference more than once, and can't figure out what that means in the context that it is used in. Thanks.

7. If one can be passionately opposed to the current US leadership |
|
and be pro-American (and most, if not all, here are) can't one also be adamantly opposed to the policies and agendas of the current leadership in Israel and still be pro-Israel?
Yes.
One is not an anti-semite simply because one disagrees with the current policy and foreign policy actions in Israel any more than one is anti-American because of opposition to neocon polices in the US.
If I can be a supporter of the US and our military AND vehemently opposed to the invasion and on-going occupation of Iraq...

3. This Israel/Lebanon war has split DU more than any issue I've seen |
|
I know I have only 600 posts but I've been around for a while, I just can't type very fast. The one thing that I hope unites us as DUers is love of peace. Who is the wrong one? I'm Not sure if it is that easy. Is this world big enough for all of us? I think so if we don't ruin it any further. My kids used to argue when they were little and that's what all of this reminds me of.

8. Many people here don't agree with the right-wing Likud party |
|
That's not all that hard to understand.
I'm sure the Left-wing Israeli is happy to get some support and many here do.
It's not a race issue so people should get over it.
