Is it possible that the earth was "raptured" before?
That all this has happened before. Civilization got to a point of killing itself and all other life off and we have had to start all over again? And once again we get to a point where some sentient beings must choose between their own greed or saving their planet?

18. That's an excellent movie. Yeah, it starts out sort of lame, but the
ending redeems it all.

4. i studied metaphysics for a few years and one theory is that
the lost continent of atlantis was a very advanced place (with aggressive, smart people) and there was also a place called lemuria (whose people were very peaceful). some think Lemuria is under sedona, arizona. well anyway the theory is that atlantis accidentally blew itself up. some think that land that has risen up near bimimi are parts of the lost continent.

so that's my 2 cents for what it's worth.

12. i don't think that the o.p. meant the religious "rapture"...
so much as the 'apocalypse' part- and even then in a definitely non-religious way.

what the poster was trying to say/wonder- was there a time in earth's past where the human race/civilization had evolved, basically to the point we are now- then took the next step and annihilated itself...only to have to start out all over again, at the bottom of the evolutionary experience.

personally, i strongly doubt it...However- i've often contemplated that kind of thing as well- but then, i do smoke an inordinate amount of pot.

17. You may be thinking of the Golgafrincham B Ark
Golgafrincham

The planet Golgafrincham creatively solved the problem of middle management: it blasted them in to space.

Golgafrincham Telephone Sanitisers, Management Consultants and Marketing executives were persuaded that the planet was under threat from an enormous mutant star goat. The useless third of their population was then packed in Ark spaceships and sent to an insignificant planet.

That planet turned out to be Earth, where the arrival of the Golgafrincham B Ark rather disrupted an experiment designed to find the question to the ultimate Answer.

Golgafrincham is also famous for its circling poets.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/hitchhikers/guide/golgafrincham.shtml

And that piece of fiction makes more sense than all the other fictions about Raptures, Atlantis, Lemuria, Scientology and the assorted (pseudo-)religious folderol. At least Dougals Adams admitted he made his stories up to sell books.
