THE ENVOY by Warren Zevon (1982)

Nuclear arms in the Middle East
Israel's attacking the Iraqis
The Syrians are mad at the Lebanese
And Baghdad does whatever she please
Looks like another threat to world peace
For THE ENVOY

Things got hot in El Salvador
CIA got caught and couldn't do no more
He's got diplomatic immunity
He's got a lethal weapon that nobody sees
Looks like another threat to world peace
For THE ENVOY
Send THE ENVOY

Whenever there's a crisis
The President sends his envoy in
Guns in Damascus
Oh, Jerusalem....(repeat first verse)

Those were the good old days, no? Miss ya, Warren! :toast:

2. Warren was a hell of song writer.

Grandpa pissed his pants again,
he don't give a damn

Brother Bill's got both guns drawn
he ain't been right since Vietnam
It's ain't been right since Vietnam

Sweet home Alabama
Play that dead band's song
Turn the speakers up full blast
Play it all night long
Play it all night long.

Daddy's doing sister sally
Grandma's dying of cancer now
The cattle all got brusselosis
We'll get through some how

Think I'll go to the Dew Drop Inn
See if I can drink enough
There ain't too much to country living
Just blood and sweat and jizz and tears

Sweet home Alabama
Play that dead band's song
Turn the speakers up full blast
Play it all night long
Play it all night long.

3. I think this was written back in the days when Saddam was our
butt buddy, you know before he quit doing our bidding. Which coincidently was about the same time he became a ruthless brutal dictator.

4. Thanx for the post
Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombassa, in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun, he didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg

Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner, talking about the man
Roland the headless Thompson gunner

The eternal Thompson gunner
Still wand'ring through the night
Now it's ten years later, but he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst
Of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it

5. Really a timeless song!
Warren knew how to write 'em.:headbang:

Another in the same vein?

"Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner"

The eternal Thompson gunner
still wandering through the night
Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it...

And there's always "Mohammed's Radio"

He was soooo good!

6. Lawyers, Guns and Money
I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians too.

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this

I'm the innocent bystander
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan

Send lawyers, guns and money...

Also for your lyric pleasure....

When I went to the doctor
I said I'm feeling kinda rough. -
Let me break it to you son,
your shit's fucked up.

I said my shit's fucked up?
Well I don't see how,
he said the shit that used to work
won't work now.

I had a dream
a shock so well
now it's all fucked up
I shot it to hell.

Yeah my shit's fucked up
it has to happen to the best of us
the rich folks suffer like the rest of us
it will happen to you.

And amazing grace
sort of passed you by
you wake up every day
and you start to cry.

You wanna die
but you just can't quit
let me break it on down,
it's the fucked up shit.

Yeah the shit's fucked up...
fucked up...
