Israel = Assholes
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 10:20 PM by Jack_Dawson
The government, anyway.

I'm sorry but why do we unconditionally have Israel's back again?

95% of Lebanon's bridges destroyed.

1/3 of wounded and dead are children.

700,000 Lebanese displaced

Bombing Ambulances (clearly marked)

Bombing Banks

90%+ of the casualties have been civilian

1,500 sorties flown

20,000 artillery shells fired (on edit - my bad).

Oh that's right - two soldiers were kidnapped by Hezbollah, and Israel has a right to "defend itself".

Look I get that living in Israel isn't easy, but if this conflict has taught me anything, it's an understanding of why Israel is so hated in the Arab world. I didn't really get it before. I'm sure bombing the living fucking daylights out of Lebanon's civilians will lead to world peace. :eyes:

On edit: Retitled to better express my outrage.

1. 20,000 artillery shells fired into Lebanon
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 10:13 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
On CNN they were saying the artillery shelling apparently goes on night and day, twenty-four hours a day. Does anyone know how accurate artillery is, especially at night? Twenty thousand artillery shells is a lot of shells. I assume they are targeting bunkers but how can they be sure what they are hitting?

On Edit: I am very conflicted about this situation. Last night on French television (I get it through satellite) they had a special report from French journalists who visited the island of Jolo in the Philippines. Bin Laden's brother supposedly spent 10 years on that island, stirring up the local Moslem population. The journalists were risking their lives filming the activities of the Abu Sayaf. They said 120,000 people have died in the guerrilla warfare in the Philippines and American soldiers were shown training the Philippino Army. I can tell you the Islamic Fundamentalists I saw in that broadcast, who had received training in Libya, Afghanistan, Iran and other places were absolutely FRIGHTENING. These guys were talking of the joys of dying for their religion and about destroying the world for Allah. They are insane. I therefore can't completely side against Israel in this for wanting to destroy fundamentalist Islam. I have been very critical of Israel at DU because I think Israel is going about it the wrong way and is outrageously over-reacting. That said, however, if westerners paid more attention to what the psychopaths at the extreme of Islam are saying, they be scared. These guys must never get their hands on a nuclear weapon.

3.  I think many of us are now focusing on why we support Israel unilaterally
You are not alone seeing the devastation and indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians in Lebanon.

...on our tax dollars. We need to focus on our support of Israel and what it has giving us in return.

5. Dr Gino Strada of that amazing group Emergency, said that in WW1, 15%
of the casualties were civilian, in WWII, 60%, and now about 85-90%. of these, 34% are children, 25% are elderly, 17% are non-combatant males, 16% are women, and SEVEN PERCENT are fighters.
