5. I thought it was Puerto Rico?
But I've always thought Canada was a part of the United States like, say...kissing cousins. :-)

33. There was no need to include Puerto Rico
since you specified "country", which Puerto Rico is not (it is a territory).

11. We *did* try...back in the late 60s
:)

Norman Mailer and Jimmy Breslin spearheaded the effort. But NY State would Never let NYC go....never.

25. A city cannot separate from a state without the state's approval.
I don't know if that's true in every state, but it probably is. It certainly is the case in NY State.

19. If Castro passes while the Republican's are still in power, Cuban-
Americans will make sure the U.S. Cuban-Americans take over Cuba. However they may not want to make it the 51st State if they find that they can
'operate more freely' without statehood. They may opt for new laws rather than U.S. laws - you know like workman's compensation stuff - or perhaps the corporations will move in and fight statehood.

Can't believe I'm the first to post that either, since there is actually still a drive for DC statehood, unlike Puerto Rico.
