This sure ain't a peacekeeping mission, and we're not protecting anyone's "freedom".
We're barely holding back the Taliban (some say we're losing ground) and life is not improving for the average Afghani. It's same shit, different assholes for them.
And the #1 reason we can't get a break is that the US has almost permanently screwed western-Muslim relations with the torture and bombings.
Face it, the west can do no good there any more.
Time to get out, regroup, ask the UN for help.
Anything.

...something like, it's all falling apart. I hate these feelings. I hope there is some common sense somewhere. But when my nearly 80 year old mother-in-law starts talking to me politically about the suffering, and dieing, and about * being heartless...I know it's bad. It's not a topic we get into. I never feel confident that she could handle "the truth". But when she brings up these issues to me, I really worry.
