We expedited those Bunker Busters to Israel:
According to the Times article

The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, American officials said Friday.
The decision to quickly ship the weapons to Israel was made with relatively little debate within the Bush administration, the officials said. Its disclosure threatens to anger Arab governments and others because of the appearance that the United States is actively aiding the Israeli bombing campaign in a way that could be compared to Iran’s efforts to arm and resupply Hezbollah.

The munitions that the United States is sending to Israel are part of a multimillion-dollar arms sale package approved last year that Israel is able to draw on as needed, the officials said. But Israel’s request for expedited delivery of the satellite and laser-guided bombs was described as unusual by some military officers, and as an indication that Israel still had a long list of targets in Lebanon to strike.

3. Is anyone else reminded of the Spanish Civil War?
That's where Nazi Germany tried out its tactics and weaponry ahead of World War II.

19. Both sides engaged in atrocities, although the fascists had more money.
How ironic that since Franco died in 1975, Spain has made more progress than in the last three centuries! It's also a telling lesson that many (most?) Spaniards have abandoned the Catholic Church. I'm Catholic myself, but people need to learn that you can't force belief in anything on anyone regardless whether you're preaching capitalism, communism, democracy, Christianity, Islam etc.

21. Spain Didn't Elect Franco
He was forced on him -- they went to war to defend their true (elected) government and a lot of American citizens (but not the American government) went over and laid their lives on the line to fight fascism BEFORE WWII.

My grandfather came here from the Basque provinces, he would be so amazed now to see that Spain is a more free and more liberal place than the US!! I can hardly believe it myself.

29. The point is that once a war starts, bad things happen no
matter the righteousness of the cause. Some of the anti-fascists who represented the elected government shot priests and nuns. Maybe they didn't kill as many civilians as the fascists, but that's hardly a comfort to the dead.

20. yes!! GUERNICA!!!
Exactly! Do you remember -- that when they held that lying press conference before the war at the UN they had the reproduction of Picasso's "Guernica" covered up with a blue tarp, presumably because they didn't want a graphic reminder of what they were about to do. They knew exactly what what happen and they don't care. Bastards. I hate them with every fiber of my being! They are as big of terrorists as anybody.

The Leader of the Final Crusade and of the Hispanic World, The Leader of the War of Liberation Against Communism and Its Collaborators".

Remind you of anyone we know?

23. And Don't Forget, Franco Was The Holiest Guy On The Block
All RW dictators are super religious.....Hitler was oh-so-Xtian too.

Wasn't Franco Opus Dei? I do hope there is a hell, so that he and Bush can roast marshmellows together for eternity...

28. Now THAT is a very interesting question!
However much harm the bishops did in Spain and Ireland when they ruled hand in hand with the government, they did more damage to the Church. Look at all the people who left as soon as there was a hint of freedom. The bishops were so busy consolidating control they forgot Christ.

bombed by our bombs, to a place with no ceasefire plan, this is such shit. We have no credibility and we are not talking to other countries who are involved with Syria, Iran just Israel, does not make much sense to me, but nothing our regime does makes sense.

13. I see your point however,
supposedly Israel is "ALLOWING" it to happen in three ports on the Lebanese coast. Whoopee--40 boxes arrived with medical supplies this morning in Beirut. Put your tin foil hat on: suppose Americans delivering relief supplies are attacked....what happens then? Perfect prelude to enter the war? I bet * would think so.

14. and don't forget
that these 5000lb bunker busters have uranium warheads.
The uranium is a way of disposing of the 99.4% uranium nuclear waste after the refinement process. It aerosolizes on impact and contaminates for eternity.

24. 100 Five thousand pound bombs.
These aren't tactical support weapons.

In VN 250lb and 500lb bombs were used for close in air support of infantry troops. A 5000lb bomb is a whole other animal. My guess is it would destroy a four square block area of a city if dropped in the middle of it. To call this a precision bomb is a real stretch.

Thank goodness those dropping them will take care only to hit terrorists.:hurts:

today. I wonder if we shipped them on the same vessel. Food and medical supplies on one side, bombs on the other.
