NEPHI, Utah (AP) -- An offensive sign that cautioned passers-by to the presence of a cognitively disabled person in the neighborhood disappeared from a front yard here after police talked to the resident who posted it.

Scrawled in spray paint on cardboard, the sign read "CAUTION RETARD'S IN AREA" and was hung in a tree on Wednesday.

The sign targeted a 13-year-old autistic neighborhood boy, Colton Heaton, whom police say has wandered uninvited into several homes, eating food and rifling through possessions. Kallie and Darren Galbraith, who posted the sign, also claim Heaton hit their 10-year-old daughter in the knee and elbow with rocks last fall, Nephi Police Chief Chad Bowles said.

The boy's mother, Carrie Heaton, said the sign was taken down Friday night shortly after police visited the Galbraith home and that she is relieved it was finally gone.

Does he/she/it think retard's is a contraction? Do the retards own the word in? If it is plural and they attempted correct syntax, wouldn't it be retards'?

I say put the sign back up, clearly it is a warning about the person who wrote it.
