Impeachment question from a new guy
Since it doesn't look like * is going to get impeached in this term, what can be done domestically to punish him?
Is there such a thing as a "retroactive impeachment," (for the history books) even if there are no charges on war crimes?

I would hate to see him run off scot-free to clear brush for the rest of his life.

1. there is such a thing as "retroactive" impeachment
it can be used to take away retirement benefits and/or bar the impeached person from holding any future federal elected office.

but there is rarely, if ever, the political will for that sort of thing.

2. Edit: I stand corrected.

Thanks, unblock. Congress could *also* pass a declaratory resolution condemning his actions, I suppose.

3. This isn't a popular opinion
But we are going to have to spend political capital to punish Bush after he is out of office; and unless the price is much lower than i think it will be, I'd rather spend that capital on buying me a new skating rink. I mean I'd rather spend that capital on helping working class and middle class Americans (by buying the skating rinks).

We don't have to "spend political capital" to see that justice...
...is properly served. We should earn it by putting criminals behind bars and saving the nation.

8. If putting Bush behind bars can be accomplished wiith just
law enforcement, I'd be all for it.

But I don't think it can.

12. Nope, we let Nixon off scot free
And all his neocon acolytes spent the next 20 years rehabilitating him, claiming that the press lost Nam, etc. and we ended up with the scum back in power.

It's worth ANYTHING to jail or execute these criminals.

4. I'm still hoping for impeachment
and oversight hearings on the criminality of the war/gitmo/nsa wiretapping/signing statements/...

to the point that bush AND cheney ARE FORCED TO RESIGN before the end of their terms. Total humiliation for the whole group of them.

BELIEVE IN JUSTICE & IT WILL COME ABOUT

impeachment comes this November.

Anything else, anything at all, is just blowing smoke up yer ass.

they could and SHOULD bring charges of corruption and anything else they can find and make his retirement a living hell ..in front of one committee after another..testifying on camera.. ALL of his cronies too..

They literally pulled of the biggest heist in history by transferring our treasury into the bank accounts of their pals .

6. Uncomfortable retirement may have to be enough
Maybe someone will be enterprising enough to make it happen.

11. He Will Be Impeached As Soon As Conyers Gets A Bite At Him In 1/07
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 02:54 PM by ThomWV
When Conyers becomes the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee (not the proper name I'm sure) you can bet that the impeachment of Bush will the top item on his list of To Do's.
