Voinovich’s Case for Bolton: ‘The World Is Going Whacko Everywhere’

Last year, President Bush circumvented the United States Senate and installed John Bolton as Ambassador to the U.N. with a recess appointment. This Thursday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will consider his nomination again.

Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) opposed Bolton last year, delivering a powerful and eloquent indictment of the Bolton nomination. Now, Voinovich supports Bolton’s nomination. Today on Fox, Voinovich explained that Bolton needed to be confirmed because “the world, you know, is going whacko everywhere.”

Transcript:

VOINOVICH: But the fact of the matter is the urgency of the situation, I mean, the world is going, you know, whacko everywhere.

CAVUTO: Right

VOINOVICH: One thing we need to do is to have somebody up at the United Nations that is going to speak for this country.

CAVUTO: OK. Gut call then Senator. I’m so rude. But gut call. If it were a vote, he’d win?

VOINOVICH: I don’t know.

CAVUTO: OK. Sen. George Voinovich on Capitol Hill.

Makes sense. In a whacko world, who do you trust?

1. Bolton helped move up the "wacko" meter. It's his fault.

2. and yet:
United Nations envoys complain that US Ambassador John Bolton's ways foil goals, according to article on the front page of Sunday's New York Times.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/23/world/23bolton.html?ex=1311307200&en=a644953573f44bd7&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

"But diplomats focus particularly on an area with less evidence of instructions from Washington and more of Mr. Bolton’s personal touch, the mission that he has described as his priority: overhauling the institution’s discredited management," Warren Hoge writes for The Times.

"Envoys say he has in fact endangered that effort by alienating traditional allies," the article continues.

"They say he combatively asserts American leadership, contests procedures at the mannerly, rules-bound United Nations and then shrugs off the organization when it does not follow his lead," writes Hoge.

5. Seems to be what he's implying
They really must have something on Voinovich, if he's using desperate excuses like this to support Bolton.

"Gut Call!" Shillvuto needs kicked in his fat face. Yes, it's a BIG job to be a world Bad Lieutennant.

The sick thing about all of this is that GroinalItch is the Senator of my state. Small wonder why DuhHIGH-Ah has gone to shit with morans like him, Taft, DeWHINE and BootBlackwell lousing things up, going tits up for the BFEE's needs at every turn. How shitbags like this get elected year after goddamned YEAR is beyond me completely. Oh wait, they rig elections.

10. Oh, SOLID logic, Steinmetz.
Why don't we dig up Nixon and see if he wants the job? He invented the "crazy as a shithouse rat" stratagem.
