it isn't funny, but because the teaser only contained the words in my thread title, the first thing I thought....

Hezbollah leader says group did not expect...

THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!

To which any good Englishman's reply should be...(not everyone all at once, now).

Hezbollah leader says group did not expect Israeli onslaught after

Posted 7/25/2006 3:52

BEIRUT (AP) — A senior Hezbollah official said Tuesday the guerrilla group did not expect Israel to react so strongly to its capture of two Israeli soldiers.
Mahmoud Komati, deputy chief of Hezbollah's political arm, also told The Associated Press in an interview that his group will not lay down arms.

"The truth is — let me say this clearly — we didn't even expect (this) response.... that (Israel) would exploit this operation for this big war against us," said Komati.

Hopefully, Hezbollah's standing will plummet in Lebanese popular opinion.

9. part of the problem is that it wasn't just a surprise the the "fucking mur
derers"

It was also a surprise to all the civilians in the area as well.

2. y'know,
much as I condemn Israel's overreaction in this case, my response to Mahmoud Komati would be "What the fuck DID you expect? Flowers?"

7. Of course they didn't expect this rampage
After all, time and again over the past decade or more, Israel has always negotiated a prisoner exchange in these situations.

But nooo, not this time. This time Israel decides to go ballistic and start destroying an entire country over what, two soldiers. Puhleeze. There's more here than meets the eye, and after yesterday's little gem that Israel and the US had been planning this move a year ago, I know damn well that this whole charade is an act designed to draw in Syria and Iran, and thus make all those PNAC dreams of ME hegemony come true.

It's also a great boost to the Neo-Cons too, what with elections coming up. It divides their opposition at a crucial time.

No, of course Hezbollah wasn't expecting this. They didn't realize that Israel had gotten a better offer from the US, and thus pulled the rug out from under them.

12. Have prisoner exchanges actually resulted in a more reasonable Hezbollah?
I'll let you think about that for a moment.

The answer is no. Israel has been very patient. Perhaps far too patient.

14. And rampaging throught the Gaza strip, the West Bank,
The Golan Heights, killing indiscriminately and seizing land has resulted in peace and fewer terrorists bent on Israeli destruction? I think not. Eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Wise words that people should pay attention to. More wise words, violence begets violence, and that is encapsuled entirely in the history of Israel.

It is time for all sides to set down the sword and to talk. Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity, it is a logical impossibility that just won't work.

years compared to the previous three?

The answer is not many.

18. Oh yes, because this is an intentional massacre of civilians.
Yeah. /sarcasm off

Ask yourself, who is actually trying to massacre civilians? It is definately not Israel. There would be a lot more dead if they were.

No, it is Hezbollah who is trying, but they just don't have the means. Do we have to wait until Hezbollah kills 10,000 Israelis before we say, "Gee, maybe Hezbollah isn't a nice group of people after all."?

19. I think both sides are cold-blooded killers, how's that???
when you fire missiles into a suburban area, filled with civilians, that is deliberate... it's certainly NOT accidental

how many Lebanese have to die before you think it's wrong?

8. That's like saying they didn't expect the sun to rise
They expected it. They were counting on it. This is just a cynical play for the sympathies of the Lebanese people...which unfortunately they have in greater numbers now than before because of Israeli airstrikes.

10. Ah, the element of surprise.
One thing that has always gotten me is that somehow, people think that just because you surprised the other side, it means you win.

Like in all the civil war battles in Arkansas, the South lost every one they "surprised" the North with.

20. B.S. this was planned, and there have been prisoner swaps in the past
No, B.S., Israel has this as a "master plan" and only used this as an excuse to reign death and destruction on the Lebanese people.

Make no mistake Israel OVER REACTED, big time! :(

All militaries have contingency plans on the shelf.

The same way America has a plan if North Korea attacks Seoul or China attacks Taiwan.
