Kofi Annan - Israeli attack on UN "Apparently Deliberate Targeting"
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 06:08 PM by kpete
Israeli bomb kills UN observers

Israel had hit Khiam a number of times earlier on Tuesday

Four United Nations peacekeepers have been killed in an Israeli air strike on an observation post in southern Lebanon, the UN has said.

A bomb struck the post occupied by the peacekeepers of the Unifil force in the Khiam area, it said.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said he was "shocked" at the "apparently deliberate targeting" of the post.

The attack came as Israel said it would control an area in southern Lebanon until international forces deployed.

The force will be discussed at crisis talks to be held in Rome on Wednesday.

1. Evidently Israel absolutely knew this post and had given assurances
to Annan that it would be careful not to target the facility. To me, this calls for immediate UN meeting and the charge of war crimes against Olmert and the Israeli government.

2. Of course, Israeli apologists will say it was a mistake, accident just as
targeting clearly marked Red Cross vehicles are "accidents."

4. similar
Sounds like the same M.O. the US used when it targeted that hotel full of journo's in the first year of Iraq War II. The journo's did all they could to inform the US Military where they were. The tanks that repeatedly fired upon the hotel were probably just "out of the loop", or somebody with an itchy trigger finger doesn't check their email diligently.

Ah, the fog of war allows for so much tragic collateral damage. Israel is just doing a copycat of established US Tactics.

6. Wow. The disregard for non-combatants is astounding.
Were Hizbollah militants firing missiles from there also? :eyes:
