I think the Dems are shameful in their attack on Maliki . |
|
Either Iraq is a democracy and he has the right to speak his opinion as he sees it or Iraq is a complete failure.

3. They may have a hidden agenda |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 07:02 PM by Slaughtermeyer
The democrats speaking out against Maliki may not particularly care about what Maliki said, they may simply want to bring attention to the total idiocy of Bush's invasion of Iraq and Bush's claim that he would install a pro-American and Israel-friendly regime there.

the media is glossing over the incredible story of thousands of American lives being sacrificed to install a regime that is starting to look like Iran.
It's up to the dems to try to force attention on that very embarrasing (to Bush) story.
edit: notice no reporter asked Bush about it today?

because he's taking the opposite side from Bush. Are you saying the Democrats should be pushing for the Iraqi PM to parrot the US line on everything?

|
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 07:06 AM by NNN0LHI
We are paying him good money and letting him live in the protected USA Green Zone because he is our puppet?
He better be saying what he is told to say if he knows what is good for him.
Otherwise we need to get a new Iraqi puppet.

9. Except that when it's Democrats calling for him to be obedient |
|
he doesn't look like Bush's puppet at all - he looks independent. It makes it look as if the Democratic party want a poodle in Baghdad, while the Republicans are in favour of Iraq making its own decisions. I can't see why you want that to continue.

11. But what you don't understand is that he is being obedient |
|
Every single word that comes from this puppet has to have the tacit approval from his American handlers before he says it.
Otherwise he would never say it. He would be gone if he did otherwise.
You know that. I know that. The puppet knows that. Now everyone knows it.
His comments about Hezbollah weren't for US consumption. They were for Iraqi consumption.
And he was told what to say about Hezbollah by his handlers in the Green Zone.
To think any different is not dealing with the reality of the situation.

8. Talk about making it look like our soldiers died in vain? This position |
|
by the Dems would do it for me. The Republicans are going to turn this around on us, mark my words. The Dems will be shuffling to "calrify" themselves because this shit does not make sense. The PM did speak out FOR anyone but asked that Israeli aggression cease. Does anyone deny that there has been Israeli aggression with them now well intrenched within Lebanon?

12. Al-Maliki is a very rude man after all we done for him. |
|
If he doesn't have the decency to agree with us on Israel's right to destroy Lebanon, at least he should have the gratitude not to bite the hand that's shoving freedom and democracy up his country's stubborn ass. Somebody ought to pound some gratitude and manners into him just like we're pounding our way of life into his nation and people and hopefully the whole ungrateful stubborn rude world.

13. Your second option. Iraq is a complete failure. |
|
Iraq is a complete failure. Now that "Mission Accomplished" has been achieved Iraq is a fragmented, bloodsoaked, country surrounded by vultures where "democracy" is not only meaningless, but a very bad joke.

14. and I could get worked about all this if Iraq had not been illegally |
|
invaded and was not currently illegally occupied. And other assorted war crimes had not taken place due to the illegal invasion/occupation.
But...Iraq was illegally invaded and it is being illegally occupied and war crimes are being committed throughout Iraq by America.
So
Until it's expressed in those clear terms by my government, and the guilty held accountable, I'm not gonna get into an argument based on the premise that Iraq is a sovereign country. (much less a democracy)
Iraq's not sovereign. Sovereign nations are not occupied by lying bullies.
Of course America's policy in Iraq is a complete failure...regardless if the Iraq PM gets to speak or not.
He speaks? Iraq is still a complete failure of American policy - and a crime He doesn't speak? Iraq is still a complete failure of American policy - and a crime.
Why legitimize the illegal invasion/occupation by pretending Iraq's sovereignty depends on whether or not the PM gets to speak or not? I'm not falling for it.
Iraq's no longer sovereign - the illegal invasion/occupation stripped Iraq of her sovereignty. And whether or not the PM speaks won't change that harsh little fact.

21. How ridiculous. When you listen to the Pretzel make a speech |
|
he's lying about 50% of the time, and stretching the truth another 45%, so as to present a largely false but rosy picture of whatever issue he's covering. Why should the Iraqi Prime Minister be any different? He's beholden to the U.S. for his current standing, he is dependent on the U.S. (naively, I believe) to help get his country under control, and finally, he is probably very much like our Mr. Bush - totally untouched by the tragedy that much of his country has become. I found myself believing very little of his "report".
