1. Maybe they just don't want to go through what they went through
last year. But does anyone besides developers? I too feel for all the people who got hit so hard, by Katrina and this admin.:(

2. what's "SF"? storm flooded? maybe?
i used to live near that house they're advertising on st. anthony street for $75,000 -- it wasn't worth $75,000 before the storm if you ask me, or just barely -- certainly not now after standing in several feet of water for several weeks

i could never live in gentilly again, they are making no progress at all on the london avenue canal

i think the "road home" program is going to have to buy out some of these homes

i don't blame anyone for not coming back, if we could afford to, we'd be gone in a heartbeat, we just can't keep going thru this crap over and over

5. ah! of course!
many of those homes in the neighborhood i mentioned above are duplexes, don't know why it didn't occur to me that it could be a single family dwelling

7. If the search involved condos or multifamily....
there were thousands more. I was curious, but had to limit my search. Someone, many months ago, had mentioned that speculators might buy up properties for development. I don't know if all those listings are part of that, but it made me sad up here in Chicago.

10. couple of friends have unsalvalgeable properties in gentilly
these so-called speculators as far as i know are proving to be pretty mythical around this time of century

remember when right after the storm donald trump said he was still gonna build his condos?

well...now we're hearing little noises that the other day he told the city council he might just pull out

if these speculators actually exist, they need to speak up, because plenty of people want and need to sell!

9. As I looked at the line, I thought the same thing.
I work in commercial real estate and we refer to an office building as say....150,000 SF.

Header didn't have enough room for single family...figured it'd be apparent on the link.

4. How sad.
I will forever morn for what NOLA lost. What the residents lost. What we as a country lost. And it all happened while dear leader was on vacation AGAIN.

They will probably all be torn down to make way for hideous McMansions.

This is a cute little house. I certanly would not mind fixing it up and making it beautiful. I love old cottage style houses. It is small, but with a little work, and a little money, it could be gorgeous. The mortgage payment being just about one fourth of what I am paying for rent. The bones of the house are adorable. Though there might be some hidden dangers with mold, etc:(

6. that's in algiers, it might not have flooded
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 09:02 PM by pitohui
might not be a mold issue at all, you would need to get it inspected

let me rephrase -- might not have flooded in KATRINA, west bank has had some flooding issues over the years but i'm not sure, i don't go over there

anyway there are not going to be any more macmansions, people are no longer going to be able to buy wind/hail homeowner's insurance from the look of things, obviously if people can't insure their homes, no point in rebuilding them

11. I know
just thinkin' out loud.

I am here in Chicago and grateful for only having blizards every couple of years. Besides, I am wanting to move to Paris in a few years. If only I can get the job that will lead me there...eek!

13. I looked at the first 4 pages
and they're all listed for $75,000. Any idea why?

14. yes more than that and you would pay property tax
homes under $75,000 are not taxed

however some of these homes were flooded and are not even worth that

these may be pre-K listings published for public record and the homes are going to be sold to the gov't thru the "road home" program -- some of them anyway -- i don't know this to be the case, am just speculating here

17. Sort it by price range.
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 10:22 PM by D__S
Top price listing is $450k.

Not really my style, but $434K will buy this...

That same amount of money won't get a person a 1 - 2 bedroom condo in the better sections of Boston.

18. that's another on the west bank, it might be okay
but they've had flooding issues for other storms, you would just have to check

a lot of the "bird street" listings in that price range, if not all of them, are in lakeview area and are nowhere near worth what they are priced at, they are just totalled, it's beyond belief, that's another area where i wouldn't live again for free frankly
